I have strep throat and white patches on tonsils. I finished the antibiotics and I still have white patches on tonsils and no pain. What is this?

Tonsil white patches: It really is important you see your ear nose and throat doctor. The patches on the tonsils may either be a continuation of the strep bacterial infection, a yeast infection that commonly grows during antibiotic treatment or trapped food debris within the crypts of the tonsillar surface that appear like patches but are just undigested food particles. ...Read more

Not sure: I'm not sure what you mean about still "seeing" strept. If there is still inflammation, but your child is acting fine and afebrile, just complete the antibiotics and follow up with the doctor after treatment. ...Read more

Strep throat a month ago. Took zpak, feel better, no pain now, still white patches in throat&right side tonsils look weird&struggle w plugged ear. Why?

Tonsils post-infx: It sounds like the infection cleared up ok (azithromycin is not my favorite drug for strep, it works ok), but you have more concern about chronic changes present in your tonsils and that is what is likely affecting your ear as well. If this is a one time thing, I'd give it another 4-8 weeks as long as you're feeling ok. If you have had chronic problems with recurrent tonsil/throat, time to see ent. ...Read more

My doctor diagnose me with strep throat gave me antibiotic but my thorat still aches and I finish all my medication now what should I do?

Is it possible to still have strep throat even after you are done taking antibiotic?

Is it possible to still have strep throat even after you are done taking antibiotic?

Yes, it is.: It is possible, but not likely. Amoxicillin generally works well for strep. However, once you are finished with the antibiotic, you are susceptible to getting it again...usually from another infected person. Occasionally, there is a resistant strain that requires a different antibiotic. If you are still not feeling well, you also may have a virus, such as mono. You should call your doctor. ...Read more

What to do if I can still get strep throat if I don't have tonsils?

What to do if I can still get strep throat if I don't have tonsils?

Yes: A tonsillectomy removes the prominent palatine tonsils on either side of the back of the throat. However, there is tonsil like tissue located in patches around the throat and roof of the throat. That and the rest of the throat tissue can become inflamed with a strep infection. Removal can reduce the intensity of symptoms but does not eliminate the risk of strep. ...Read more

How commun is rheumatic Fever from untreated strep throat? Also, is it still possible to contract strep throat after having the tonsils removed?

Rare and yes: Rheumatic fever is very rare these days. The reasons for its lower frequency than in past years are not completely known. Accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment of group A streptococcal infection are only part of the explanation. Strep throat certainly can occur after tonsillectomy. ...Read more

I have strep throat. I started my antibiotic on tuesday. I still see the white spots in the back of my throat, can I scrap it out without reactivating?

Be patient: The material you see is just debris and will shed over time with resumption of better feeding activity/roughage ingestion. The less you tinker with the area the less likely you are to introduce other germs into the already irritated area, some of which will not be killed off by an antibiotic you are using. An abscess could form requiring urgent surgical decompression. ...Read more

Hi it been a week i been diagnose with strep throat still haven't gone away even with antibiotic should I worry?

Sore throat: First, who examined? Did anyone evaluate for a peritonsillar abscess? And did they do a monospot? Many 'strep throats' are actually mono, which while strep bacteria may be present in a culture, the strep isn't the cause of symptoms. If it's mono, an ebv panel might help, but the treatment is rest and no Aspirin if it is. ...Read more

I had strep throat 10 days ago. Went to doc was given a penicillin shot think bicillin felt better 2 days later but still have small pus on tonsils??

Strep throat: Even though you have been treated the pus is signed of dead cells and as long as the rest of the symptoms are resolving or completely resolved does not mean the infection is not better. I would wait a couple of days and if every other symptoms is resolved this should go away soon. If the symptoms are the same or worse you might need an alternative antibiotic. ...Read more

Hi. I got my tonsils removed over a year ago due to chronic strep throat and frequent tonsil stones. Since my tonsillectomy, I often develop a sore throat, white patches, and pain in the areas where my tonsils used to be. Could there possibly be residual

Tonsillectomy: Taking the tonsils out doesn't mean you won't develop sore throat anymore, on the contrary, an important organ which helps contain infection now is removed, main reason is that tonsils become useless and themselves are harmful if left where they are, there are other tonsils at a lower level called lingual tonsils, smaller, can get infected too, but to a lesser degree, see ur doctor ...Read more

My 2 year old twins have strep throat and have been taking anitbiotics since monday. One has a barky sounding cough. Is this still strep?

No, most are viruses: The fact that strep is found does not mean that strep was positive of symptoms. Most cold-type illnesses such as that with your twins' cough are viral. Probably initial symptoms were viral-related. Swab was done in strep was found. There is a latin expression "post hoc ergo propter hoc": meaning: since strep was found, it is presumed to be the cause of symptoms. Not necessarily so. ...Read more
