So I fell down the stairs at my mother's house, and I heard my bones crack and pop in my right foot. Is it sprained or broken? It hurts when I walk.
Fell down stairs, was seen. Said I have a sprain. Bottom and top of foot hurt. Shin where I have carpet burn feels warm to touch and numb. No xray.
Be patient: It sounds like you have a bad sprain and some associated numbness where you got the rug burn, and most likely had some superficial nerves damaged in the scrape. If the rug burn starts to get redder and spread, the warmth gets worse, it starts to drain pus, than it may be getting infected, so seek help again in that case. Otherwise, time will heal your wounds. Good luck to you. ...Read more

Have it evaluated: Twisting ones’ ankle can lead to a sprained ankle. Often times, this may result in ligament or tendon injuries which may lead to ankle bruising, swelling, pain, and possibly instability. An x-ray of the foot and ankle will be able to assist in differentiating a sprain form a fracture. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Sprained foot & ankle a mo ago in fall down stairs. Xray neg for fracture so far. Top of foot still so sore I can barely touch. Is this normal?
Not normal: This is a common complaint seen in the urgent care center. If your foot or ankle is still hurting after 1 month, it is likely fractured and missed on the initial XRAY read or re-injured due to improper immobilization of the original sprain. You foot needs re-evaluation, a repeat XRAY, and a proper orthopedic shoe with Ortho follow-up +/- Physical Therapy. See your doctor today. ...Read more
Should i see an ortho foot specialist or physical therapist? Three weeks ago i sprained my foot. I tripped running up stairs outside the school and basically kicked the concrete step full force. I knew immediately i hurt my foot. My dr x-rayed a few days
A : A small, hairline fracture might very well not show up on an x-ray, especially an x-ray that was taken only a few days after the injury. If your foot still hurts past the 2 week mark, the protocol is to take a second set of x-rays and look for bone callus, this white, fuzzy looking stuff that is seen around a healing fracture. It takes 14 days for bone callus to be visible on x-ray (and you still may not see the fracture line). So i would go back to your doctor and have it re-x-rayed and look for bone callus. If your second set of x-rays fail to show any bone callus and you're still having pain, swelling, etc., an MRI would show any soft tissue damage that might be present (and also wouldn't show up on an x-ray). I would caution against taking Ibuprofen continually. One of the stages of bone (and wound) healing is the inflammatory stage. You need a certain amount of inflammation in order to heal. If you constantly take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen, you will suppress or delay healing. Stick with tylenol (acetaminophen), (acetaminophen) and if tylenol (acetaminophen) isn't sufficient to reduce your pain, ask for a narcotic combination with the tylenol (acetaminophen), (acetaminophen) like tylenol (acetaminophen) with codeine. Hope this helps. Feel better! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
