What other treatment can I have instead of plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) I have sjogrens I had allergie with plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) ?

There are several.: I am following over 100 pts with primary Sjogren's. If Plaguenyl cannot be used, oral gold (Ridaura) is an excellent option. A new drug, not yet indicated for Sjogren's, but in FDA approved trials is Rituxan (rituximab). Anecdotal reports suggest promising things. No other drugs are of agreed upon use. I believe "pulsing" with dexamethasone is of use, but no trials exist. ...Read more

Start with your PCP: and go from there. There are internists who specialize in sickle cell management, and your PCP will be the best person to refer you. Plus, if you start plaquenil, (hydroxychloroquine) you need to have a good eye doctor too to follow you as well for all of your conditions. I have sjogren's and am taking plaquenil. Are there any exercises or anything i can do for the joint pain? Advil, motrin and tylenol (acetaminophen) don't work.

Why could plaquanil cause my irregular beats to be worse ? It sure helps my pain and weakness from my sjogrens . Heart doc doesn't know why .

Coincidence: Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) doesn't cause arrhythmia. However, palpitations are as prevalent as rain. It's most likely that you would be having them whether you took plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) or not. "Correlation does not prove causation". Meanwhile, avoid nicotine, caffeine, and alcohol. I am 6 weeks into tx with methotrexate/plaquenil for rf-negative arth. Initial improvement after 3 wks, now bad flare. Have i failed the treatment?

No: Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) generally takes 6-12 weeks to be effective and can take up to 6 months to reach its maximum benefit. Methotrexate can take 2-3 months and the dose can be increased to as high as 25 mg weekly if lower doses are not adequate. ...Read more
