Gravity: If chest pain is primarily due to GERD, then it is common to have worse pain at night. The reason is gravity. More stomach acid can leak out of your stomach into your esophagus causing burning. Also, the valve between your esophagus & stomach is less competent (more leaky) due to change in pressure gradient on either side due to lying down position & gravity. Most likely: Given your age, gender and level of fitness, the most likely cause is "musculoskeletal", that is related to the tendons, bones and muscles in your body; rather than your heart itself. This is especially suggested by the pain being present with lifting weights "isometric", which usually doesn't strain the heart itself. Rib torsion.: Lie down face up. Have friend compress your chest at sternum with downward pressure. See if reproduces pain. Also when experience it try locate it and press hard. If reproduces or increases it probably torsioned rib which is common. We call them rib lesions. If at area where rib stops and cartilage attaches it to sternum that's costochondrits?
