I have muscle spasms all over my body all day every day for almost two years now what is the cause of this? What should I do?

May be rheumatologic: This is certainly a difficult problem to live with for two years. There may be different etiologies for your problem. It could be rheumatologic, neurologic, or even a reaction from a medication. I suggest you start with an evaluation by your primary care doctor and then get a referral to a neurologist or rheumatologist if needed. ...Read more

I get muscle spasms or twitch all over my body all day and night long for almost two years now. What is the cause and how to treat the problem?

Complex: The cause of "spasms" could range from benign causes to significant neurological problems. Benign myoclonus is one condition that is more of a nuisance whereas a myocloic epilepsy or other metabolic disorder could be a more worrisome cause. The treatments vary widely based on the cause. You should be evaluated by a neurologist. ...Read more

Muscle spasms legs, feet and side back come and go, mild but noticeable. Had for 1 month. Is it MS, ALS will I get paralysed?

No: Someone has been reading too many medical horror stories. It is mega highly unlikely that spasms in an otherwise healthy 20 year old represent anything but overuse or electrolyte disturbance. The diseases you mention generally do not begin like that. See your family doc for an evaluation and reassurance of the correct diagnosis, so you can get this problem resolved. ...Read more

I have been diganosed with both trigeminal neralgia and occipital neuralgia. I also have some memory problems and muscle spasms. Could I have ms?

Challenging?: You seem to have very complex issues, and I would certainly wonder about an underlying unitary diagnosis. Ms could cause fatigue, memory loss, and trigeminal neuralgia, but usually not occipital neuralgia. Maybe MRI of brain and spinal cord could illuminate the picture. Might also want to check for lupus, lyme disease, and even hiv. Perhaps get full evaluation at a local medical school. ...Read more

Could I have multiple sclerosis even if my MRI was normal? I have a lot of the symptoms (muscle spasm, weakness, tingling down my back and legs), but my MRI didn’t show anything. Can an MRI miss ms?

Typically not: Mri is the most sensitive test available to aid in the diagnosis of ms. While there are rare cases of MRI negative ms, the vast, vast, vast majority of patients with ms have MRI abnormalities. Having said that, given your symptoms it would be important to know if the cervical and thoracic spinal cord were imaged. If brain and spinal cord imaging negative then not likely to be ms. ...Read more

Hip/ butt muscle spasms on left side like charlie horse. Recent MS dx. Possible symptom? Very painful lasted 2 days already. Suggestions?

SOME THOTS: Pain is very common in ms, and can present numerous ways, and even migraine is present in ms pts at a frequency of 2-4 times normals. However, your muscle spasms could represent a separate process in hip, back, pelvis. (unlikely, but if you were given steroids, check for avascular necrosis in hip). Lastly, do not want to second guess your doc, but there are oral meds now (no needles). ...Read more

Numb/tingling in hands, legs, and feet on both sides. Muscle spasms in legs, back and arms. Loss of balance, dizzy, stiff. Is it Neuropathy or ms?

Bad choices: You probably don't need or want to pick A or B. Both require a doctor's DX and TX and it might be another thing altogether. A common cause of neuropathy is a diabetic condition w/ other signs too - are you a diabetic? Get into care if 'yes'! MS usually starts a bit later in age. Have an exam to find an answer. Physician evaluation: Muscle twitches are often seen in normal individuals after exercise, with physical or emotional stress, as part of a syndrome called benign fasciculation syndrome and may be caused by a wide variety of other problems such as electrolyte abnormalities, thyroid disease, and nerve root compression. Cramps can also be a side effect of cholesterol control medications. You should be evaluated by your md. ...Read more

I took Plan B 10 times and I have been experiencing involuntary muscle spasms every part of my body. Could this be caused by hormonal imbalance?

Too much plan B: Plan b is an excellent form of emergency contraception but it should not be used routinely. If you have used Plan B 10 times you need to be on another form of contraception. After you not tsken Plan B for some time I would see if your symptoms go away. If not, or if your symptoms get worse, you should look for other causes. ...Read more

Hard to say: It is hard to say what could be causing such specific spasms; pin-pointing the cause may be dependent on how long it has been since you had the c-section. If the muscle tissue is still regrowing post=operation, there may be some irritation during contraction that is causing the spasm. ...Read more

I get sweaty hands and frequent muscle spasms all over my body even when I'm not nervous. They both usually go away on vacations. What could cause this?

Possible Anxiety...: There are a multitude of possible reasons for these symptoms. From simple anxiety and stress to a host of endocrinological (glandular is an old term) or metabolic changes.
I would stop caffeinated beverages (coffee, soft drinks/sodas, etc.) and probably see your Pediatrician or Primary Care Physician.
The vacations may or may not help support anxiety as a reason, but not necessarily. ...Read more

Muscle spasms and their causes... I have frequent muscle spasms all throughout my body... What causes these? They are constant!

Many causes: Muscles in our body contract and relax consciously and unconsciously. A muscle that involuntarily contracts without our consciously willing it is called a "spasm." if the muscle maintains a sustained "spasm", it becomes a cramp, as can be seen with exercise.
