I have had lower back pain on my left side, L5 &6 for over a year. Last week I woke with excruciating pain in my lower right back, hip, pelvic like someone was stabbing me with a knife. After a CT to determine no kidney stones my orthopedic thinks it is

A few possibilities: How did you figure it was L5 &6. There are typically 5 lumbar vertebra, but some patients can have 6. A few of possible diagnosis could include sacroiliitis versus other spinal issues, vascular problem, urologic/gyn etiologies, etc. A work-up & exam will help point to a diagnosis. ...Read more

I have lower back pain on my right and left side& recently have started getting tingling and numbness in my hand and legs and left calf swells somet

Calf swelling, if related, is usually related to reduced leg mobility. Numbness in hands as well as legs would not be caused only by nerve compression in your lower spine--so do you have two diseases or only one? See a neurologist. ...Read more

I have been suffering from lower back pain on my left side but usually have it on my right side. The pain goes doen my leg and I have 3 numb toes?

Sounds sciatic : It sounds like you have been having back pain due to a disc problem that has now most likely herniated causing not only the back pain more localized to the side it herniated but is now pinching a nerve creating pain down the leg & resulting in the numb feeling in toes. 90% get better non operatively. If there is any further development of weakness in the leg or bowel/bladder symptoms see doctor. ...Read more

I have lower back pain on the left side and that pain is now in the front. Along with pain down the leg but not pass my knee and numbness in the arm?
