Biopsy: Most such lesions turn out to be benign however you really can never be certain without sending it to a pathologist for microscopic examination. A good rule of thumb: if a lesion is changing in size, shape, color, texture, thickness etc, it should be biopsied. ...Read more

I have always had a raised mole on my forehead but recently noticed the mole has got a little lighter in colour is this normal?

Moles: Moles can change. Usually changing to a darker color is a warning sign. If asymmetry to the mole, darker within lighter areas or it has gotten larger in size, then I would have it seen by your MD. ...Read more

Have a mole on arm 3 x 3 mm mostly uniform colour with a little lighter spot in the middle. Recently noticed that it has become a bit raised. Cancer?

Unlikely: Given your age, it is unlikely to be cancer. But, I would need to see it to be sure. I would recommend that you see a dermatologist for evaluation. If is is suspicious looking, a biopsy may be performed. ...Read more

Obgyn & dermatologist looked at spots on vulva & said they were normal (moles or pregnancy changes). They look bulging under skin and purple. Venous?

Exam needed: We will not be able to guess without being able to do an exam and see what the lesions look like. It sounds like your Obgyn and a dermatologist have done an exam. Schedule a follow up visit to have them clarify the diagnosis and treatment plan ...Read more

Red raised painful lump on vulva. They come and go. Drain whitish thick fluid when come to a head. What are they?

Vulvar lumps: This sounds like blocked glands. The best thing to do is warm soaks or apply moist heat for 10 minute 2-4 times daily. Scrubbing with antibacterial soap twice weekly may help. If none of this works, seeing a dermatologist or gynecologist for more advanced advice would be advised. ...Read more

6yr old child has 5mm raised mole. Present for many years. Mole is light - medium brown with pin head size darker area. Over last month no changes. Hair in mole is this a cause for worry.

Leave it alone: There's nothing to suggest malignancy. Hair present actually speaks against an concern. Show the physician on the next visit. All pigmented lesions in kids do need to be checked; I'm glad you're monitoring it closely. ...Read more

3 mm dark brown raised mole hasn't changed in over a year. Chance it's cancer?

3 mm dark brown raised mole hasn't changed in over a year. Chance it's cancer?

Unlikely: 3 mm is quite small. If it is unchanged in over a year, symmetrical, and fairly uniform in color it almost certainly a benign mole (nevus). Melanomas usually change in color or have color variation, grow in size, and have asymmetrical borders. ...Read more

Can trauma cause moles or something looks like moles? I have something looks like atypical mole after I picking off a hard brown scale on my vulva.

Mouth lesion: Brown scale on uvula is atypical as the membrane is usually wet. The fact there was scaling and now a pigmented lesion merits a direct examination and possible biopsy. I f the lesion is there for more than few days do not mess with it, get it evaluated by ENT MD ...Read more

Had a vulva biopsy on a mole on the outside of my vagina six weeks ago with dissolvable stitches-it was benign. When will sex be normal? Sex is still irritating-is there sexual function loss in this

Should not be: With a simple mole removal, it should not interfere with sexual function. Furthermore your wounds should be sufficiently healed at six weeks to permit normal sex. Hypersensitivity or mild numbness immediately around the incision may be normal. However what you are describing does not sound typical. See your surgeon. ...Read more

Had a vulva biopsy on a mole, something went wrong, I have elevated skin that is painful- I was told it was not a keloid scar, but may need to see a plastic surgeon- what happened to result in this..

Hypertrophic scar: On occasion, delayed healing or a suture reaction or a cyst or a neuroma may produce a hypertrophic or painful scar. If the biopsy was benign, I would first recommend steroid injections. ...Read more

I had a vulva biopsy on a mole, something went wrong, I have elevated skin that is painful- I was told it was not a keloid scar, but may need to see a plastic surgeon- what happened to result in this?

Healing: We all heal differently, and if you had a full-thickness biopsy that was left to heal itself, it has likely scarred in.
A revision - removing the scar and closing the wound with dissolving stitches - may well take care of it. ...Read more

I have a mole that used to be raised and dark but over 3 years has flattened, became pale and has split into 3 sections. Should I get this checked out?

Changing mole: Any time you have a mole that "changes" its time to have it evaluated and more than likely removed for analysis. Something in the mole is causing it to change and that may be a sign of skin cancer and rather than worry - have it checked and removed and analyzed - do NOT just have it destroyed. See http://www. Cdc. Gov/cancer/skin/basic_info/symptoms. Htm

Raised mole for years with no change - suddenly over last 3 days turning white n a little itchy. Is there any way it's not cancer? So scared.

Probably not: Some moles will develop a halo around them and are
called halo nevi or moles. This might be what you are getting. Many people have looked at this, and there does not seem to be an increased risk of cancer in these moles. However, any mole that has changed should be seen by a dermatologist. It is certainly worth
your peace of mind and it might need to be biopsied. ...Read more

You need a medical e: A doctor's examination is a must as any black or brown lesion which is growing, changing or comes back again indicates possible cancer (melanoma) which is a dangerous cancer to fool around with it as you ahve done by using your nails to reomove it. ...Read more

My 4yr old has always had a flat light brown birthmark/mole on top of his bum. I noticed it has got darker and raised. Is this normal?

I have a mole between my toes and wanted to know if part of a mole can fall off. It was raised and brown now the lump is flat and dark flesh colored.

Maybe, maybe not.: I suppose it could, but I'm more inclined to believe that the mole could be, in reality, a callus. It is not uncommon for them to be between the toes, mainly because of the potential for the toes to rub against each other. They can cause a small amount of bleeding which would make it look brown and raised. When it comes off, it would be flat and have darker color. To remove all doubt, see a doc. ...Read more
