There are certain conditions that cause cough that need antibiotics or steroids (i.E pneumonia, reactive airway, bronchitis). In the meantime a humidifier or cool mist vaporizer in the room where the baby sleeps may help. Also pediatric nasal saline drops helps with congestion, which can help decrease the cough. Depends: Infants have narrow nasal passages compared to adults, and breathing often sounds noisy when there is a cold. As long as your baby is able to take bottles or nurse ok, is normally interactive, and chest movement seems normal with breathing, she should be fine. It sounds like cold: Take otc tylenol (acetaminophen) and cough medication. Hydrate yourself. If fever goes further up and develop additional symptoms like shortness of breath or wheezing see your doctor for an exam.
