We need more infora: We would like to know what meidcatiosn you take and when you take the medication related to when the lab was drawn. If you are on methotrexate and take in right before the lab the liver tests can elevate. It could be related to other meidcations like NSAID or to medication or some type of muscle issue. You can discuss this with your rheumatologist. ...Read more
I have been told I have slightly low platelets apart from high cholesterol everything else was fine have had second blood test should I worry ?
I have had 8 viral infections this year that passed quickly. I am concerned i have immune defiency disorder. Blood work in march showed nothing ?!
I wouldn't worry: When I was a young doctor I had many of these from seeing young children. After several years my immunity developed and I was fine. This is also common in parents with young children, especially if they are in day care. By being sick you build up your immunity. When I was in the service, with was also common when moving to a foreign country. After a year, the illnesses seemed to temporize a ...Read more
Is it possible to have normal raised LFTs? For the past 10 years i have had fluctuating lft. I have had an mrcp 2 months ago that was NAD.
Need more info : typically not *normal*, but depends on which "LFTs" and how high. there are a number of syndromes where any combination can be elevated in a benign process (gilbert's for example, can't conjugate bilirubin so it's high). you have UC so your docs need to keep a close eye on possibility of PSC. is that why you had the MRCP? ...Read more
I have a slightly elevated SGPT and S.Creatinine rise from 1.02 to 1.12 mg/dl in one month. If I have +ve ANA (60.3 iu/ml), does that mean I have SLE?
I was told I have elevated ANA and that I have lupus. I then was diagnosed with celiac. Does celiac cause elevated ANA?
Is it normal to have low C3&C4 serum? I had a positive ANA over five years ago also. Now just have low C3&4. Should I be worried? I have felt sick. TY
I have had consistent high EBV titers (in the thousands) for 10 years now. They never go down. Should i be concerned?
Hi doctors 19 year old recently had CBC and it came back saying i have high basophils and microcytes level should i be worried
See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it would be helpful to have the actual values. However, neither of the issues you mentioned are a cause for worry. You should ask your doctor about these findings. You may submit the results, and symptoms in this forum. ...Read more
I have pcos (undiagnosed) I have 2 periods a year. But in 3 months IV had 2. Does this mean I have ovulated?
Undiagnosed: If you have undiagnosed pcos, you have probably not excluded other causes of infrequent periods. Pcos is a diagnosis of exclusion which means that all other causes of hyperandrogenism/infrequent periods have to be ruled out. You really need to get the right diagnosis in order to make sure you get treatment and attention for the appropriate disorder. Starting with your gyne would be good. ...Read more
Doctor can check: Numbers are just numbers, with little meaning unless one can see the big picture. A TSH result above 3 can mean thyroid problems if a person is having symptoms of low thyroid. A TSH level above 4 means that situation is even more likely. However, there are some people who are normal with a TSH level up there. One's primary care doctor can evaluate the whole picture to see if treatment is needed. ...Read more
My serum creatinine was increases from .90, three years ago to 1.09. Do I have to be worried?I male 22y/o 5'9, 70kgs
I am male of 45. I have had blood tests recently. I have GGT 63 and ALT 53. I am about 20 kilos overweight. Can this be reversed.
I had pseudotrophomonas 9 months ago. I now have an elevated immature granulocyte count. I can it lie dormant then return?
Unlikely.: Bacterial infections can linger, but usually if immature granulocytes are present due to infection, you are obviously ill. The more the blood is abnormal, the sicker the patient. If you have no infection signs or symptoms i would be concerned there is another cause of the blood problem. See a hematologist (blood specialist). ...Read more
I have had my hep b vaccine as a child about 20 years ago. I had a check up 3 weeks ago I found that my AB titer has fallen below 10 what should I do?
Hep B antibody level: Vaccine induced antibody levels reduce with time, but immune memory remains intact and it is generally believed that people with declining levels are still protected against severe Hep B disease. Boosters are not recommended for immunocompetent people in this scenario. Hemodialysis patients with levels below 10 mIU/mL should be boosted. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What does "TSH with Reflex" mean and do I have to fast for this test? I had TT 2 years ago, diagnosed w/Hashimoto's 20 years ago.
Add on test: Many laboratory tests can be ordered with 'reflex', meaning that if the particular test results are abnormal, more extensive testing is automatically run on the initial sample. This saves time and avoids repeated visits for blood draws. For thyroid testing alone, fasting is not required. ...Read more

Hi, i have elevated bilirubin (34). It's always above 20 when Ibs flares up and IgA - 1 (1-10 normal). I have GI symptoms, test for Ttg was negative. ?
Unclear question: Your bilirubin is not that much increased even during flare ups and is likely within normal limits. If your IgA is really 1.0 mg/dL you are IgA deficient that may be contributing to your symptoms. If the TTG test was for IgA antibody to ttg, that would be invalid given your low IgA. It would be prudent to consult a GI specialist. ...Read more
My Lyme band 23 came back reactive, what does that mean. I have been fatigue, headaches, neck aches, for 2 months now. Could this mean I have lyme. ?
Must take in context: You shouldn't base a diagnosis of lyme disease on a single band of a western blot. A history of tick bite in an area where lyme disease is common, and rash are other important factors. The symptoms you report could be due to many things. Speak to your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
