I have cyst on ovary but don't want surgery. What other options are there? Its 6 cm.

Depends on cyst: If imaging shows a "simple" cyst, an option is to repeat imaging in 4-6 weeks to see if it is smaller or entirely gone. A "complex" cyst may require surgery, depending on its specific characteristics. Need for surgery also depends on the amount of pain you are having. If severe, you may consider surgery to definitively take care of the problem. ...Read more

I'm scheduled for surgery to remove my only ovary BC of a 7 cm cyst. are their any suggestions I can bring up to my dr to save my ovary?

I'm scheduled for surgery to remove my only ovary BC of a 7 cm cyst. are their any suggestions I can bring up to my dr to save my ovary?

Probably not: b/c the surgery is already set and it is more difficult to remove just a part of the ovary. However, you can tell your doctor that you want more children, or desire the hormonal effect of the remaining ovary, and ask if there is any way that some tissue can be spared via his/her expertise. Make it a challenge. If the cyst HAPPENS to be in the tube alone, it is possible to remove just the tube. ...Read more

Cyst aspir./removal: The ovarian cyst will be aspirated or removed hopefully, via an outpatient procedure such as laparoscopy. It will mean a short stay in an ambulatory outpatient center and a rapid recovery at home for 1 to 3 days depending on how much is done. Don't forget to return to the GYN MD post procedure for your post-op examination to be sure everything is OK. ...Read more

I have a cyst of 6.5 CM by 5.8 CM in my right ovary for 5 years. Lots of pain during periods. Is surgery recommended? Is the ovary at risk?

Tough question: Normally any ovarian cyst greater than 6 cm should be followed very closely and surgery considered to rule out the possibility of a serious condition. However, since it has been there for 5 years and is stable, it an be followed closely. However, if it i now causing you much pain, perhaps it is time to consider removing it. Consult with your doctor. Depends also on your age, birth control used, et. ...Read more

I have 5.6 CM ovarian cyst and scheduled surgery by march.im puzzled if i am.to have left ovary removed or just scrape.worries are they'd regrow ?

Ovarian cyst: You don't mention which side the cyst is on but I'm thinking the left from the way you word it. We do try to remove just the cyst and safe the ovary in most situations. But that isn't always possible, so there is a small chance you may loose your ovary. Talk to this concern with the surgeon ahead of time so you know what to expect. ...Read more

Not likely: Since you are already postmenopausal, it is not likely you will change status with this surgery. Your indication for surgery has more to do with making sure the large ovary/cyst is not cancerous. ...Read more

I have 2 ovarian cysts 1 on each side both are large 7 cm and 10 cm what are the chances my doctor will be able to save my ovaries when doing surgery?

Excellent: in general the is an excellent chance of saving the ovaries if we are dealing with a simple cyst. if the cyst is complex and might have solid component , then the risk and the suspicious of cancer increase. surgeon job is to save the ovaries as much as they can unless there is a risk of cancer then we have to balance between fertility and survivals, and survival always win. ...Read more

I have been diagnosed with a simple cystic mass of 7.8 x 5.9 cm in the right ovary. Please do I need to do a surgery immediately. I am not on any pill?

Surgery if painful: In general, a simply cystic mass of the ovary can be watched but it has to be followed with routine check ups and ultrasounds to ensure it isn't growing much larger or developing findings that might make it look less "simple." There's always the concern though that the cyst could twist which can be an emergency b/c it can cut off blood supply to the ovary. Make sure you have follow up. ...Read more
