I have been running fever off and on for 4 days. Went to doctor yesterday. He was not alarmed. He said it is upper respiratory virus. No antibiotics.

And that's logical.: If you do in fact have a viral infection and it's not a high fever, then there are no antibiotics that will help you. Common misconception, the common cold can't be treated with anything other than tincture of time and the right things to boost immunity, vitamin d, c, rest and fluids. Chicken soup really works. ...Read more

Stomatitis: Have you checked for similar lesions inside the mouth? If so, she could be suffering from primary herpetic stomatitis, a herpetic viral infection. Be careful to not allow dehydration. As my colleague pointed out, it could be hand/foot/mouth disease, also viral and needs care in the same fashion. Self limiting. Good luck! ...Read more

My 14 year old son has had strep throat for 7 days now. He is still running a 100+ fever every now and then. He has been on amoxicillin for four days?

Re exam: With adequately treated strep, fever should be resolved by day 4. Have him seen again if he wakes with a fever tomorrow. How was strep diagnosed? By rapid test? By culture? How is his pain? Is he having any drooling or trouble swallowing? Asymmetry of tonsils? Persistent infection can hide various places. Also, if no cx or testing done, several viruses may be culprit, mononucleosis among them ...Read more

48 hours of fever: Poor baby! This timeline is definitely in the realm of fever related to vaccines. I would decide according to how the baby is looking after a dose of motrin. If he perks up and gives you a smile with a dose of motrin, then you can watch him tonight. If he appears ill, is not feeding well, or is hard to console, then bring him to the ER now. ...Read more

Had glandular fever four weeks ago now I have running clear mucus from nose fatigue. Always feeling run down what will help me get better?

Give it more time: Glandular fever (same thing as infectious mononucleosis) often causes fatigue that can last several weeks. It will get better with tme, but nothing is known to speed it up (except it's always good to maintain general health, balanced diet, etc). Your runny nose probably isn't related, maybe just a common cold. Keep in touch with your doctor if you remain concerned. Good luck! ...Read more

My 6yr old has been running a fever for 4 days now, appetite is ok but a couple of weeks ago we had her stool tested and there was blood there.?

May need to be seen: While fevers and even blood in the stool can be from fairly benign causes, anytime a fever starts to last for close to 5-7 days, it could mean a more serious problem. While a good appetite is reassuring, it would be important to explore other symptoms. Also, blood in the stool from a few weeks ago, may or may not relate to this problem. Need to know why it was checked then. If child sick, be seen! ...Read more

My son has a cold he been running a fever for 2 days and he's only 7 month and I been given him moultrie what can I do?

Should be seen soon: Hi - if your infant has a cold virus and a fever then fluids and fever medication are both important. If I have been running a fever for 3 days do I need to go to the doctor?

If I have been running a fever for 3 days do I need to go to the doctor?

Fever: Temperature over 102 degrees should be investigated. The function of fever in the body is to provide an inhospitable environment for bacteria and dilate blood vessels, letting more white blood cells get to the site of the infection. Certain white blood cells are also activated by the higher temperature. Furthermore, your metabolism increases, helping the body combat infection. See your doctor! ...Read more

My 4 month old son has been running a fever of 99.5 for 5 days and has been coughing, sneezing, and congested in his chest. Should he see his dr?

Fluids/monitor: This is something you can probably monitor at home. If baby has playful times/fluid intake enough to wet diapers every 6hr/breathing not too noticable suggests home care is ok. Lack of play/noticable incresed work to breathe/poor fluid intake all suggest a dr visit in order. Nasal saline helps keep the nose clear & tylenol (acetaminophen) as a comfort med may help. ...Read more

My 11 month old son has been running a fever for the past 4 days. Highest temp has been 101.2. Motrin and tylenol (acetaminophen) break the fever, but it keeps coming back. He is teething. Should we take him to a doc?

Teething Help: Many infants show signs of distress during teething. The exact mechanism these symptoms occur during teething is not known, but the correlation of these stress symptoms with a tooth erupting remain high. Ibuprofen, cold teething rings and/or camilia can help. Try to keep fluid intake high. Ibuprophen will help with the elevated temp. And with discomfort. If it doesn't improve see your pediatrician. ...Read more

You should: Take your 5 month old to the pediatrician. He can re-examine your baby to find out what is causing the fever. If anything it could just be a viral infection that will take its course and be sure you are giving the right dose of Acetaminophen based on weight. Keep your baby hydrated and continue fever control in the meantime. See md asap if condition worsened. Call peds on call for advice if concerned. ...Read more

I'm 10 days early for my mother nature nd have been vomiting for the past 3 days nd during these 3days I been running a fever and my smell is off?

Acute illness.: If your periods are regular & about 30 days apart, it's unlikely that your symptoms are from pregnancy. What you mean by "by smell is off? " If you have a smelly vaginal discharge, that means something different than if your sense of smell is "off." Regardless, vomiting for 3 days with a fever could mean a possibly serious infection. So you need to see a doctor, sooner rather than later. ...Read more
