I have been intimate with only one man in my life. Why is my pap smear abnormal?

Very common...: If your partner has ever been with another person, he could be an carrier. Hpv is so common that at least 50% of sexually active men and women get it at some point in their lives. Most people with hpv do not develop symptoms or health problems from it. In 90% of cases, the body’s immune system clears hpv naturally within two years. ...Read more

I have only had one sexual partner for the last 16 years, now my pap is positive for HPV. Does that mean he cheated, or could I have been having it?

Means nothing: Everybody has a few strains of HPV, and when they'll pop up and when they'll decide to hide is known only to them. Plus, there are lab errors. I'm glad you have someone special, and there's nothing to be gained by searching for possible infidelity. ...Read more

HPV : Hpv may lie dormant for an extended period of time, and you may never experience an outbreak of 'abnormal' cells. Nonetheless, you will always be a carrier of hpv. If your immune system weakens for any reason, this could cause your hpv count to rise. Observe a healthy lifestyle and get pap smears regularly. ...Read more

Is bleeding during a pap smear and tender cervix normal? Hi, I am 19 years old I have only had two sexual partners I have had lower abdominal pain which the doctors think is from my scar tissue. Today i had a pap smear and my gyno said my cervix was swoll

First : First of all your concern about cervical cancer is valid, given that your grandmother had cervical cancer. But, at 19 yrs old cervical cancer is not something to be concerned. The incidence is almost none to rare. In fact, as per new guidelines by health care leaders, pap smear should be started when woman is 21 yrs old. However there are other reasons why a pap smear was thought necessary before age 21. The most important thing for woman exam (pelvic exam) at your age is std screening and if woman has any menstrual problems or pelvic pain issues. So, with the above information i provided, bleeding during pap smear if it is unusually more and if the cervix is very tender, i would recommend that you should get std screening. Infections with chlamydia and trichomonas can cause tender cervix, pain with intercourse and also can make it bleed easily. Sometimes, woman might not have typical symptoms of burning and vaginal discharge with chlamydia infection. Just that infection with chlamydia has long term implications on fertility and other complications, it is worth getting checked. My sincere advise is to use protection without failure any time to prevent stds. I do want to provide you with some more information about cervical cancer and how to modify any risk factors to decrease your risk of cervical cancer in the future. One of the risk factors that causes cervical cancer is hpv infection. But more than half of women of your age fight it off and get rid of it. Human papilloma virus is a infection that is transmitted sexually. This puts women at high risk for cervical cancer. There is a vaccine available to prevent the risk of getting high risk hpv from partners. At your age that is very well worth the cost to get the vaccine. It is a series of 3 injections over a period of 6 months. Please talk to your doctor for more information about risk factors for cervical cancer. I hope this is helpful information to you. ...Read more

I recently got a pap smear and it came out normal; however, I am HPV positive. It is high risk HPV and my doctor told me nothing changes and that i ha?

HPV infections are c: Most hpv infections clear up over a period of months to years as a result of our immune system doing a good job. But you need to stay under surveillance and continue getting regular pap smears as advised by your gynecologist. Unless there are some premalignant changes noted on the pap test you do not need to worry about it for the time being. ...Read more

Do this: Get tested once for HIV because every young man your age should do this. You will almost certainly be okay. Then be proud. Proud that you are a healthy young man. Proud that you shared love. Proud that you are saving the rest for that one special person. Proud to be sexual yet responsible. Well done, man. Maybe even talk with Dad. ...Read more

I weigh 257lbs and am 5'7 i don't get a regular period the longest has been 4 years. I have had a pap smear and everything was normal. Your thoughts?

My thoughts: Must be obvious to you. Your serious overweight is clearly the answer. Unfortunately the hypothalamus (a computer in the brain) is part of the cause because of biochemical changes in it. The worst dietary offender is sugar in all its forms and even sweeteners. ...Read more

Never had a pap smear but i only had sex with one partner 4 times and its been almost 2 years since i lost my virginity. Should i get checked?

Yes,,,: It's important to keep up the pap smear visits as they are recommended for women over 20 or at onset of sexual activity annually. If there are 2 consecutive normal paps then it can be done every 3 years. This is important because hpv is/ can get in your system by exposure to others who are infected, especially sexually, and so could cause cervical cancer. Good luck. ...Read more

My friend had gonorrhea and chlymadia three times in the past does this mean she infertile?

My friend had gonorrhea and chlymadia three times in the past does this mean she infertile?

Probably not: Chlamydia and gonorrhea can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), i.e. fallopian tube infection, usually with severe abdominal pain, often fever. PID can result in infertility, but usually does not. Milder infections cause infertility less often. So most likely no problem with fertility. I hope she has taken steps to reduce her STD risk -- safer partners, condoms, etc. Good luck to her. ...Read more

Unlike : Unlike what you read about in magazines, many women do not experience orgasms. That does not mean that there is anything wrong with you. Movies often portray women as having orgasms during thrusting, however, far more women experience orgasms with stimulus directed to the clitoris. The majority of women do not experience orgasms due to strictly vaginal penetration. What is important is that the sexual interactions with your partner are mutually pleasurable. You and your partner could consider some exploration of methods to stimulate the clitoris, but if you still don't achieve orgasm, you needn't fret. It is especially important not to reach the incorrect conclusion that something that is wrong with you. Take care. ...Read more
