Chronic cough: Most common causes for persistent cough include 1) gastric reflux 2) postnasal drip (sinus infection? Allergy?) 3) undiagnosed asthma or copd 4) medication side effect 5) vocal cord problem. We are able to successfully treat most cases of persistent cough by focusing on these possibilities. A few screening tests are also warranted (such as a chest xray) and so seeing your physician is important

? Sinusitis: Can start as viral, then bacteria would kick in later causing secondary infection and lingering symptoms as what you described, you want to see your doctor again for re-evaluation or seek a second opnion, it's your right, as you may need antibiotics

Thick mucus coming up but no cough. Any ideas?

Quart of mucus a day: The respiratory and GI tract are lined with cells that secrete mucus. Mucus from the respiratory tract may be from the nose, sinuses or lungs. Since cough is designed to prevent mucus build up in the lower respiratory tract, consider the nose or sinuses as the source. An ENT or allergist could assist in this investigation.

Every morning cough up really thick mucus started in October?

Every morning cough up really thick mucus started in October?

COPD: See MD. Even without knowing your age/ medical history one may venture to guess this may be COPD related to smoking or smoke exposure history. Chronic morning cough with sputum production sets warning bells off immediately. Chronic cough>8 wks different story. But MDs don't like to guess we need the info. Pursue pulmonology/spirometry consultation. Minimize your cardiovascular risks. Good luck.

What could a mostly dry cough that produces thick green mucus each morning be for a smoker?

What could a mostly dry cough that produces thick green mucus each morning be for a smoker?

Chronic bronchitis..: This could be chronic bronchitis, a form of copd. It occurs mostly in smokers and is not due to infection. You would need to be seen by your doctor and have pulmonary function tests to diagnose this entity. There is no cure but there are treatments available. The most important step to slow disease progression is smoking cessation and your doctor can also help with this.

I've had productive phlegm (thick, mucus y) for more than a month without a cough. Should I be concerned? Any possible causes?

I've had productive phlegm (thick, mucus y) for more than a month without a cough. Should I be concerned? Any possible causes?

Possibilities...: This may be due to chronic bronchitis, especially if you have smoked. An evaluation by your doctor is needed to find out if there are any associated symptoms and so proper testing can occur. Once you are properly diagnosed, treatment can begin. If you currently smoke, you need to stop. Your doctor can help with this as well.

Hi, I've had thick mucus and a deep cough for about a month now, tried everything, what could it be and is it safe to exercise?

Hi, I've had thick mucus and a deep cough for about a month now, tried everything, what could it be and is it safe to exercise?

See your doc: Many causes of a persistent cough- viral bronchitis, pneumonia, reactive airways/asthma, post nasal drip, sinusitis, acid reflux, etc. If the cough originates from the neck/throat and you have no fever or fatigue, then you may exercise. If this is a chest cough and/or associated with fever, chills, shortness of breath or fatigue, then you need to rest and to determine the cause and treatment.

It: It isn't possible to diagnose your condition via this format. It could be a viral respiratory infection, pneumonia, bronchitis. A bacterial infection. Since it has been going on for a week without improvement, it is probably time to get it seen. In the mean time hydrate well and consider use of an over the counter mucolytic medication.

My 18months old suddenly cough and vomit clear and thick mucus in the middle of the night?

Posttussive vomiting: It is very common for little kids to vomit after coughing known as post tussive vomiting. I am sure he felt better and slept better after that. Whenever they cough they are trying to bring something up. Once it is out they feel relief.

Well...: You seem to have enough symptoms to warrant an examination. If you do have a fever you should see a Dr. Today. The prognosis of a pneumonia is directly related to how fast treatment is started. If you have a bronchitis, it could wait till tomorrow. And the again, why wait, you could be on your way to recovery faster

Cough: Could be post-viral cough? Bronchitis? Asthma? Pneumonia? Need to keep a diary of associated symptoms (fever, chills, aches, pains, sick contacts, recent travel, spent time with grandkids/nieces/nephews, etc.) and get in to see your doctor. A simple fix is on the horizon. Could even be gerd manifesting as cough.

I have chronic cough of thick mucus left breast pain sometimes feel like tearing very painful also upper back left side pain?

Two choices: 1: Have someone take you to the nearest Emergency facility. That could find your problem and have some laboratory information. 2: If they have some additional concern they will call a specialist. 3: Might take a bit of time to evaluate your blood and other organs but would be necessary. Hope all goes well -- pleased keep me posted if possible.

Congestion thick mucus chills stuffy nose cough feels like there is cold air in my lungs every time I breath. Been like this for 2 weeks is this bad?

Cold persistent: You cold has been persistent for 2 weeks and it involves breathing. I think you should see your family doctor of the one how prescribes the humilin for you if you can see them. I think you need a chest X-ray. If you are coughing colored secretions, you will need antibiotics. See the doctor on Monday or Tuesday. You will be feeling better by the first of the year. Good luck and feel better!

I have a sore throat and a cough with a lot of thick mucus. What does this sound like?

Bronchitis or sinus: This could either be bronchitis (an infection in the lungs) or sinusitis (an infection in the sinuses). Increasing fluids, voice rest, hot liquids and bedrest may help.
