I Have A Tender Spot On The Back Of My Head What Could Be The Cause

Remember, in medicine, something bad usually does not go away and gets worse and becomes apparent, if it goes away, it was nothing to start with. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Swelling: If you didn't injure the spot where the head is tender (bumped your head) then it is most likely some skin irritation. You could have an allergic response to some shampoo or other hair treatment. As long as you are not an infant, the skull is closed and it is only the scalp you are feeling. There are rare situations when the skull is not closed from birth, but you would have known about that. Read more

Sore spot: Doctors have been seeing alot of infections on the skin due to bacteria over the last few years. My 6 year old has a tender spot in back of his head since 3 days ago, it hurts when he touch it, what it could be?
See his doctor: It sounds like it could be a skin infection, perhaps from a bug bite. Depending on how large it is, if it is getting worse day by day, and how tender it is, he may just need antibiotics to treat it. If your doctor thinks it is an abscess (a pocket of pus in the skin), they may want to drain out the fluid. That will make it easier to treat with less pain. Warm packs and pain relief can also help. If I had a brain bleed would the pain get worse and lessen? Would a spot in the back of my skull be tender to the touch? I've had no head trama.
If you have had no: Head trauma, than you fear a hemorrhagic stroke or an aneurysm? Most likely, if you had either of these, you would not feel it on the outside of your head and you would have neurologic signs ie limb weakness, problems speaking, confusion or any other neuro signs associated with damage. If you are having any other neuro signs, get checked out, but otherwise it does not sound like an active bleed. Read more
