Same as before: Sounds like you are having an acute flare of sciatica. These symptoms will usually resolve within days to weeks. Recommend OTC antiinflammatories and or acetaminophen. Back : Back and leg pain can be caused by disks, stenosis, slipping of the spine (spondylolithesis), foraminal stenosis, spine fractures, etc. Most likely your right leg pain is from herniated l4-5 disk. Patients with disk herniations may benefit from giving time for the pain to settle, physical therapy, steroid injections and surgery. If the disk herniation did not respond to steroid injection then you should see a spine surgeon to discuss surgical options. There has been many advances in spine surgery and i would recommend looking into endoscopic spine surgery. Please see my health guide on lumbar disk herniations and sciatica. Maximum Ibuprofen dose varies on your weight and medical conditions i recommend discussing this with your doctor. Good luck! ...Read more

Hello, : Hello, i can not tell you the cause of your pain. However, when working around the spine, it is often necessary to work around, or handle nerve roots which can subsequently become inflammed and painful. The opening where the nerve exits is sometimes drilled wider so that it will not impinge on the nerve root. However, especially if the space was tight, it would be difficult not to cause some inflammation of the nerve root. Pain radiating down the leg can sometimes be caused by inflammation of the sciatic nerve. Don't know when your surgery was done. If it is recent, it may take a while for the inflammation to resolve. You might ask your doctor to prescribe medication in the meantime. Take care. ...Read more
I keep waking up or being woken up by severe pain in my right hip joint. Sometimes, like today it lasts all morning. And causes acute pain when I try to use my right leg.
Sorry for your pain: Try lying flat on your back either on the floor or in bed. Bring your right knee up to about 90 degrees - like you are going to pull it to your chest but not so far. Slowly and gently, rotate your right knee towards the left. If it reproduces your pain, it could in fact be coming from the ball and socket hip joint. You really need to see your doc and get an xray of the right hip. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Need to evaluate: This should not have persisted so long. Your description is consistent with nerve compression in your lower back causing a lumbosacral radiculopathy. Whether this is due to aberrant blood vessels or a disc herniation needs to be discovered. An MRI and an EMG should help. See your doctor and get this answered and treated. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What are best treatment options for l5-s1 slipped disc with numbness and shooting pain in entire leg.
Multilevel : Physical therapy, nsaids, cessation of tobacco and avoidance of aggravating factors is a start. However, since there is shooting pain in the "entire leg", the disc is likely irritating more than one nerve root (s1, l5, and possibly l4). Lumbar epidural steroid injection may be beneficial. If not readily available, a 7-14 day Prednisone taper can be tried but less effective. Surgery may cure it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Hello. : Hello. Since this has been evaluated, no problem has been identified that requires surgery and medication is not working, recommend you consider medical acupuncture to augment your treatment. There are more md's and do's being trained in acupuncture through out the us. This can often provide assistance in functional problems when western medicine sometimes can't. I am a western trained physician, but I am so glad that acupuncture provides me with other ways to help my patients with pain. Take care. ...Read more

Hello. : Hello. I do not know if you appendicitis. Sometimes the pain from an inflamed appendix can start around your naval. The pain usually worsens and then can be felt in the area of the appendix (right lower quadrant of your abdomen). Usually the area is tender when touched. You likely don’t feel like eating if you have appendicitis and you can experience nausea, vomiting or a fever. You indicated that you have been coughing & sneezing which makes the pain worse. You certainly could have strained muscles from this. I once coughed so hard that i broke my rib. The way I am visualising your pain, it doesn't jump out as appendicitis. However, with that said, appendicitis can have a number presentations. The basic recommedation in medicine, is that any new source of severe abdominal pain should be emergently evaluated. So, it you are having severe abdominal pain (i was having a hard telling if it was flank/back) you should have it evaluated post haste. ...Read more

Have L4-5 Broad disc, no canal stenosis but contacts transisting L5 and exiting right L4 nerve roots. What can this cause? I have dull ache right leg
Correlation: The right leg pain could be due to the disc affecting the right L-4 nerve root, and an EMG test might provide definitive confirmation. Radiculopathy: You don't mention what surgical procedure you've had previously, but an l4-5 entrapment would effect the lower extremity and not the thigh. That level would be l2-3. Assuming you've had the MRI you need of the lumbar spine, i'm surprised you haven't had an implanted stimulator to address the pain. Paralysis of muscle groups can become permanent if the entrapment persists long enough. ...Read more
