It depends: "pink eye" is a very broad term describing infectious and non-infectious conjunctivitis. If you have an eye infection, then control of its spread is important. When it improves: Pink eye is spread by contact (rub your eye and touch something which someone else will touch later). Virus is shed as the eye gets redder or plateaus in redness. When the redness starts to diminish, no more virus is spreading and you are safe. In the meantime, wash your hands after each contact with the eyes. Read more

Is pink eye a reason to stay home from work?

Is pink eye a reason to stay home from work?

Yes: True pink eye is the same virus that leads to the common cold. It is extremely contagious and can cause epidemic breakouts. The rule of thumb is to avoid direct contact or sharing of objects with others until you are no longer symptomatic. Since the virus can last for hours on surfaces (door handles, chair arms etc.), it is easy to spread the disease. Stay home until you are healed. Read more

Pink Eye: First you have to make sure it is Pink eye, there are a lot of other conditions that looks like a simple conjunctivitis.
Usually it is a simple infection and does not cause any problems or chronic conditions, when it is recurrent you need to make sure it is not dust allergy, or sun sensitivity to name a few so definitely see your doctor if its coming back,
