I have severe pain on both sides of my back, no matter if I'm sitting, standing etc. The pain is consistent on both sides. I'm a type 1 diabetic.

Possibility: I wonder if it's something called costochondritis, which is inflammation of the cartilage in between your ribs which can feel an awful lot like bruising. The other anatomy around there would not make sense bilaterally to both be feeling the same way. Have you tried any OTC meds? I might try 500mg naproxen twice daily and heat to the area.
