Some thoughts: Pain in the lower back is most often from muscles. Kidney stones that are being passed usually cause very severe flank pain, but very rarely on both sides at once. Back pain.: Rest / stretching / avoidance of heavy lifting and judicious use of medications including acetaminophen 650 mg up to 5 times / day or a non steroidal agent such as naproxen 500 mg twice a day.
