I have a lump on the joint between my middle finger and hand. What is it?

Finger Joint Lump: This requires an exam to determine if it is on the top (wrist side) or palm side of the hand. Fixation or movement with hand open/close maneuver is also important. If it is on the top it is more likely related to an injury or poorly healed fracture; however there are other possibilities. Tendon Inflammation: There are multiple causes of finger/joint pain. Given your age and no history of trauma, nor arthritic problems, the most likely cause is a trigger finger or tendonitis (swollen tendon). Ask yourself, ifyour pain is on the back of the knuckle, worse in the morning, and painful with flexing the finger, and if there is tenderness in the palm over the tendon. Probably a ganglion : Cyst. Typically come from a joint. Can be very painful. Most hand bumps are benign. Typically can be aspirated with a needle and decompressed or otherwise surgical excised. Used to call them bible beater lesions because the biggest book on the house was the bible and by smacking it with the 'good book' caused them to rupture. I do not recommend this though.
