Unlikely: If these are your only symptoms, then you probably just have swelling from the injury and neck sprain/strain. If you are worried, then you should talk to your doctor about it.

Neck mass: The only definitive diagnosis of any mass is to have it biopsied. There are lymph chains in your neck area, so depending on where it is, it may be simply a benign lymphadenopathy, but again, as stated, the only definitive diagnosis is made by biopsy. An ENT Doctor would be able to perform a therapeutic and diagnostic excisional biopsy of the area if warranted after an examination. Best wishes.

There's a small lump on my neck and it really hurts. I've had it for about three days now.

There's a small lump on my neck and it really hurts. I've had it for about three days now.

Neck lump: Given the acuity of the lump, it is probably a small abscess or a lymph node, secondary to a nearby infectious process. However, since you did not give ample detail, I am unable to say, unequivocally, whether the infection started in the throat, or just the scalp.

Difficult to tell: By verbal description. But this is a relatively large mass. You should show it to your doctor. Possibilities are enlarged lymph node, benign or malignant tumor, or something in underlying bone.

It: It could be a lymph node, salivary gland or other structure in the neck. The lymph nodes in that area can be larger and one must realize there are hundreds of lymph nodes in the neck. If it persists, please see a doctor. Also if you are smoking - stop.

Uri: Sounds like a viral syndrome with muscle aches, pains and sore throat. Fever is common with many viruses. The lump in the neck is a lymph node reacting to the viral infection. It is normal for it to be tender. Give the symptoms time to improve. Take Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for the tenderness in the lymph mode. Apply heat to the area. If the lymph node does not improve in a month, see an ent.

Neck lump: A hard lump on the neck that lasts more than 2 weeks should be evaluated by a physician. Sometimes you can get a cyst or swollen lymph node, but if it's lasting for more than 2 weeks a clinical exam is important to determine whether this is something serious or not. If you have fever, redness over the lump, discharge from the lump, or difficulty opening your jaw you should see your doctor asap.

A cyst or node: Epidermal inclusion (sebaceous) cysts and lipomas often occur here. Could also be a lymph node, but if not enlarging is not of concern.
