Occipital neuralgia?: This may be occipital neuralgia. If you have had it for six weeks straight, it may be worth visiting your doc. They can recommend someone to inject the nerve to see if the headache is coming from there. If it is there are some options, if not well then you would continue down the diagnostic pathway.See 1 more doctor answer

Stress or: Position of head. Do you sleep in an odd position. Do you have a very restless sleep. These are things that may contribute to your headaches. Make sure it is none of the meds that you may take. Trauma would be another consideration or work in a position that may be a cause of neck strain. Try some ibuprofen occasionally for headache prevention.
Try: It may be related to issues occuring in yout neck. Try sleeping with a small pillow if using a large one or multiple ones. Try some simple heat applications to the area and gentle stretching especially in a hot shower. You can try some otc meds. If the headache is constant or does not improve with these recommendations see your doctor to evaluate possible causes and further treatment options.See 1 more doctor answer
Usually not: Allergic rhinitis (hay fever) rarely causes headaches. If you have severe nasal symptoms for several days the swollen nasal lining may interfere with frontal sinus drainage causing frontal pressure and if this continues the pressure can increase to pain. This process develops and resolves over many days. If you have the sudden onset of headache resolving in 24 hr, it is not allergy related.See 2 more doctor answers

I occasionally have horrible headaches, they don't bother the front of my head, or the sides, only the back. Is this a migrane?
Could Be Neck Issues: If preliminary evaluation by your primary doctor doesn't help, consider evaluation of your neck to make sure nothing is awry there. Many times the facet joints in the neck or even herniated disks could be a cause of this issue in the back of head. Alternatively it could also be occipital neuralgia in the back of the head if the neck evaluation reveals nothing.See 1 more doctor answer
