Not sure.: Possible causes of insomnia include poor sleep hygiene, traveling with change in time zones, chronic pain, frequent night-time urination, problems breathing, shift work, anxiety disorders (esp. R meds the answer?: I would want 2know the specific reasons u aren't sleeping well. I'd 1st want u2 have medical checkup. If there don't appear 2b any underlying physical reasons, I'd then want info on your daily routines -what u do, what u eat, etc. Also, I'd what 2understand the stressors in your life, the thoughts run thru your head when u try 2 sleep & when u r awake. I've noticed when I have a licorice tea at night I have difficulty falling asleep. Coincidence? Or is there something to that?

Agree w Dr. Jacobson: Retire ; rise same time each day. Keep bedroom dark ; cool ; use only for sex ; sleep. Turn off tv. No naps. Exercise regularly but not in late evening. No caffeine for 6 hrs ; no alcohol or tobacco w/i 2 hrs of sleep. Keep dinner moderate sized ; finish at least 2 to 3 hrs before sleep. A number of things: There could be sleep apnea. You could also have underlying depression as well, which can also disturb sleep. Caffeine may also disturb sleep, as can alcohol. You should definitely see a sleep specialist to go over all of your sleep habits and complaints to chart out a management plan.
