I Have A Cold And Can T Stop Coughing
Hi, I have a cold and it's lasted about 5 days now. How do I get rid of the tickle and cough ASAP? It's hurting me. I want to stop coughing, How?
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more

Cough: In general, a symptom of coughing can first be addressed by over the counter measures. Cough specific syrups or tablets are readily available. Decongestant medicines can help if the cough is related to sinus drainage. Giving the cough ample time to clear is advisable but if you develop fevers, shortness of breath, chest pains, or bloody sputum, it may be time to see your doctor. ...Read more
Interesting!: I mean, it SOUNDS as if you are purring, but probably it is mucus in the throat that air is whistling by. However, it could also be wheezing, if you have never had it before and don't know what it feels/sounds like. If it is just a cold and you are not at all short of breath or having any pain, not to worry. But if either of the latter, you should be examined with a stethescope. ...Read more
Cold: Drink plenty fluids, chicken soup helps, a decongestant for the nose, a saline nasal spray, Mucinex (guaifenesin) or equivalent for the cough. If the cough persists for more than 5 days, you will need to see a doctor. A viral bronchitis goes away on its own, a bacterial pne needs an antibiotic. ...Read more
Hey. I wanted to know is it urgent for me to see a Dr. Basically I have a cold and everytime I drink fluids I start to cough instantly?
Well. ..: It's definitely urgent if you can't drink anything. .. Dehydration is not fun. Sometimes you can see these types of symptoms with disorders involving swallowing (we call it, dysphasia) in people that have reflux disease. Or it could just be a respiratory virus. Without a physical exam, it's hard to say. I'd recommend you get it checked out by your doctor - better safe than sry. Hope that helps! ...Read more
I'm on antibotics for strep and now have a cough. If is possible to have a cold in addtion to the strep or what is making me cough.?
Throat and 'cold": Strept throat only hits the throat, if congested + cough then it I a viral syndrome. It can be very severe but antibiotic will not only not help while it can hurt by causing un-necessary drug resistance. Each wrongful use of ABx can lead to drug-resistance. Cannot use same ABx within 3months if another infection occurs, thus you lose a very precious weapon in your life. ...Read more

Got a mild concussion 7 days ago. Now have a cold with a cough. Cough isn't horrible but uncomfy for head. Worried cough will hurt head more?
It may: Over-the-counter products containing dextromethrophan/guaifenasin may help improve your cough, and using acetaminophen or ibuprofen as needed for the headache may be of benefit as well. Concussion aftercare is very important, and if your headache is still present 7 days later this suggests it was a significant one. Rest often in low-light, avoid eye strain/reading until feeling normal. See your Dr ...Read more
