Weight bearing?: If you are able to bear weight on it and move it then it's probably not broken. An xray can tell for sure. A blood collection under the toenail can evolve into wonderful colors. If ithere is painful pressure under the nail then a simple procedure to drain can provide instant relief. Otherwise be patient and the itching is a sign of healing. Eventually the nail may be pushed off by a new one. ...Read more

Might be easy to fix: Hard to tell from your description, but this could be a "subungual hematoma, " or a collection of blood under a fingernail or toenail after you've bashed it. Usually it's just a drop of blood, but it can really hurt! a doctor or nurse could show you how to drain the blood and relieve the pain (but not all nurses know how). Buddy taping.: As long as the stubbing has not left your toe with some obscene angular deformity, either up/down or right/ left, your toe will probably do just fine with a minimal amount of help. The blood is from vessels that have obviously been injured. The key now is prevent further injury as well as stabilize the toe so healing can proceed uninterrupted.
