A mammogram is the "gold standard" screening test for breast cancer. It's well established that yearly 'grams will DX cancers well before they are palpable, leading to earlier diagnoses and saved lives. All experts agree to begin yearly mammograms by age 50; many (including myself) believe the pro's outweigh the con's to begin at 40. Regrettably, less than half of all women ...Read more
I had a mammogram n they found lumps then i had an ultrasound of my breasts n only found mass tissue that wasn't cancerous can tje mass tissue turn int?
Unlikely need tests: At 44 yes have to be concerned , if you have any abnormality , will need close observation . Most likely you have thick dense breast tissue , if you have lumps and masses one will feel them which you don't have , you have densities by xray only. Speak to your md will advise you if need MRI of breasts or even core needle biopsy of the area , don't forget to go for follow up visits. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have two lumps in my left breast and they are not showing on u/s or mammogram. I have scattered fibroglandular density. Can abnormalities hide?
I am currently breastfeeding and feel oblong spongey lumps in my breasts. I cannot tell uf these are normal. Dr will not do mammogram until i wean.
Consider ultrasound: I understand that doctor is worried about radiating breasts when you are breastfeeding, but another option would be to get an ultrasound which is safe for breastfeeding and can be more accurate than mammogram in young women your age. Ask your doctor for an ultrasound so you can rest assured that these lumps aren't more concerning. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Xrays - sound waves: Mammography uses x rays to image the breast and ultrasound uses sound waves. Mammography is more sensitive to picking up cancers but does involve small doses of radiation.Us has no side effects, but is not nearly as sensitive in picking up small cancers. Us is best use to characterise a problem that is picked up on examination (or by the patient) or mammo. Very good for determining cyst vs. Solid. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have two lumps on my right breast. Went to doctor and will have a diagnostic mammogram done but in 5 weeks?
Sounds too long: If you have new breast masses, you should have the mammogram +/- breast ultrasounds asap. Ask your physician to call the mammogram center to see if s/he can get you in sooner. Also, ask the mammography unit to put you on their wait lists in case any one cancels. I would also recommend seeing a breast surgeon for evaluation as well. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
How to perform self examination on large breast? How to differentiate lumps in breast? Is it better to get mammogram/ultrasound? 25 years old, 40D.
My mammogram was negative no lumps or masses found. Why would my doctor recommend an ultrasound? They did say i had dense breasts.. Very nervous
Not sure...: I'm a breast radiologist. Something doesn't make sense. In the absence of symptoms (with negative mammo and physical exam), there is no indication for a diagnostic ultrasound. What occasionally happens is something worded in the mammogram report makes the referring physician uncomfortable and additional testing is unnecessarily ordered. I would call to clarify, but i wouldn't worry if i were you. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

I form lumps in my breast they are not a mass and one of them is not a cyst they done ultrasound and mammogram but it still scared me what is it?
Lump: Being scared is a normal feeling. However, do not let the fear take over your life. If no strong family history of breast/ovarian cancer, having a normal mammo and sono are sufficient and they should put your mind on ease. F/u with your md and have annual clinical breast exam and you can also do self breast check. But, if you are at high risk-strong family history-mri need to be considered. Healthy 68 yr. Old woman still has hot flashes. Seems like each month I have tenderness in my right breast. No lumps.Mammogram clear. Is this normal?
The areola on my right breast is puffy. It is not sore and I can not feel any lumps. I am 50 years old and in perimenopause. I had a mammogram 5 month?
Not to ignore: B"sd not to be ignored - even if you had your mammogram last week. With a negative mammogram a cancer is unlikely but any change in the breast as you described should be brought to medical attention. It is not an emergency, so you could wait a week and if it goes away should probably just maintain routine breast health surveillance. ...Read more

Continue work-up: A clinical finding is only the first step in determining what and if any thing is actually abnormal so don't panic but continue with your follow up. Most common 'neck bumps' are lymph nodes but just because you can feel them doesn't necessarily mean they're concerning. Same for breast bumps which are very common but also need to be fully evaluated to make sure they're not a problem. ...Read more

Lump: It may not necessarily be bad, but it sounds like it will require further evaluation. There are benign lumps like cysts and Fibroadenomas, and there are malignant lumps. So at this point there is not enough information to venture a guess. This may require additional mammo views, ultrasound, or possibly biopsy to get an answer. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a lump in my right breast. How can I get help quickly and not wait in a long line for a mammogram?
See a breast surgeon: I would not recommend a mammogram for a 28 yr old women. I advise you to see a breast surgeon (ideally one who performs ultrasound). They can assess the significance of this lump and decide what, if anything, needs to be done. In my practice we will see people asap under these circumstances due to the anxiety inherent with this problem. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
I found a lump in my breast, having a mammogram soon what happens if the test shows a problem? what would be the next step?
The next step: would likely be a Breast ultrasound to further evaluate the lump and/or mammographic abnormality. Depending on the results, an image-guided needle biopsy may be indicated.
