Hair dye allergy: You should see an md to see whether you had an irritant or allergic reaction and if allergic you should have patch testing to determine which chemical is causing the reaction. Hi I got treated at my ER last night for allergic reaction to hair dye and it's comes back today what should I do?
Allergic Reaction: I'm not sure what your treatment entailed last night. Hopefully, they gave you instructions for continued treatment. If they did not, then you need to return for care either to your regular physician, an urgent care or to the ER if you are having difficulty breathing, swallowing or closing up of your throat. If you just have a rash then I would take antihistamines until you can be seen. ...Read more

Contact dermatitis: You must be very frustrated and I'll bet the itching is unbearable! I think you need to continue treatment to manage symptoms until this reaction works it's way out of your system. Are/were you using oral glucocorticosteroids (Prednisone, Medrol) as well as massaging a topical steroid lotion in the scalp? There may also be a superimposed infection that needs to be treated. You'll get better. ...Read more

I'm a hairdresser. Can the odor from hair dye cause an allergic reaction or the throat to swell/close?
Yes, tho...: ..it techically isn't an allergy. Could be hypersensitivity to the odor of the aerosol which can actually trigger tightness in upper airways such as laryngospasm or paradoxical vocal cord movement. Sensation usually triggers coughs but highly distressing airway spasm may develop. Sipping water and exiting area help. Can't rule out asthma so I'd see an airway specialist: allergist/ent/or pulmonary. ...Read more

Had an allergic reaction to a hair product. Redness and whelps on my face, neck, and my scalp. What should I do?
Yes: Yes. Hair loss can also be due to many other things. In fact, hair loss can occur months after the cause came and went. If you are severely stressed in a car accident or even during the delivery of a baby then some hair may fall out even three months later. Medicines can also cause hair to fall out without rashes or itching occurring on the scap. ...Read more

Head lump: There are several possibilities here. Yes, one of them is that it could be an allergic reaction. It could also be an irritant dermatitis, where she is not actually allergic to the relaxer, but the chemicals were too strong for her skin and the scalp was irritated. It could be a folliculitis where the hair follicles became infected. Of it could be a swollen lymph node from irritation or infection. ...Read more
