DVT prevention: You should def be moving your ankle/ calf/ hip muscles to help maintain muscle tone & blood flow/ decrease your risk for dvt. However, restrictions & recommendations for motion @ the knee will vary based on many factors. Your surgeon should give you info about expected progressions based on their method for the procedure. Have been eating meat, cheese, veggies, nuts for 6 weeks; no fruit, added sugar, or bread. Had knee replacement surgery several days ago. Taking meds. Drinking lots of water. No bowel movement for over a week, no pain either. Is this a problem? Thanks!

Constipation: Would suggest adding fruit to your diet unless specific dietary concerns. I assume you restarted rehab. Constipation has to do with decreased physical activities and pain medicine on the postop period. In case constipation persists make sure you mention it during your follow up visit with your PCP. ...Read more

Don't give up!: It depends how far from surgery you are. Initial stiffness is common during the inflammatory stage of healing. This is when warmth of the knee and night pain is most noticeable. As inflammation decreases, range of motion increases. Knee replacements: There are multiple causes of post-operative knee pain/stiffness after knee replacement. Your pain seems to be located mostly in the outside of the knee. Could be normal: If you're concerned about post-op knee and ankle swelling, I'd mention it to your surgeon. Could be routine post-op symptoms. But you also want to make sure you don't have any signs of DVT which could be easily checked if there's any question. ...Read more

Infection: Any sudden change in a joint replacement represented by new onset of swelling, pain or stiffness could indicate an infection until proven otherwise. You are still very early out from surgery so this could be just muscle but if the joint looks swollen and you've lost motion i would advise a prompt f/u with your surgeon. ...Read more
