Get checked: May have been an ocular migraine, but another possibility is amaurosis fugax, related to impairment of blood supply and possibly associated with increased risk of stroke. You should have a dilated eye exam, screening for blood pressure/cholesterol and possibly additional testing such as an ultrasound of your carotid arteries. ...Read more

Vision (Definition)

Gray area of vision in lower quadrant of one eye that lasts anout 5 minutes then goes away?

Gray area of vision in lower quadrant of one eye that lasts anout 5 minutes then goes away?

Definitely get exam: This could be anything from a visual migraine to a tia. The fact that the gray area is in a quadrant does suggest a possible cerebral problem (visual pathways in the brain rather than from the eye itself), but a direct problem in the eye is still possible. An eye exam by an ophthalmologist and possibly a visual field test will help to determine the cause. ...Read more

Why did I have loss of vision and grey field in one eye briefly? Under stress then.

Why did I have loss of vision and grey field in one eye briefly? Under stress then.

Many reasons: Its difficult to answer these kind of questions, not knowing some information. However, it could be migrains, tia, amaurosis fugax, visual changes induced by exercise, drop in blood pressure, etc. Stress in itself wouldn't cause a brief loss of vision, although it has been associated with central serous chorioretinopathy, which can cause a prolonged distortion of vision. ...Read more

If I close one eye, I have faint grey vision, the other eye is clear. If both eyes are open I can see just fine. What could this be?

One dysfunctional I: Both eyes together in the presence of one bad eye can commonly be perceived as vision that is fine. You seem to have one eye with a problem. It could be uncorrected eyeglass need or some interior eye damage which is disturbing the vision. You need to see an ophthalmologist to see what is the problem ...Read more

Is amaurosis fugax like an actual curtain descending? A gray block covered half my one eye out of nowhere, no descending just came and left, 45 seconds. Ophthalmologist saw nothing wrong. Other ideas?

Is amaurosis fugax like an actual curtain descending? A gray block covered half my one eye out of nowhere, no descending just came and left, 45 seconds. Ophthalmologist saw nothing wrong. Other ideas?

Stroke precursor: Amaurosis fugax is usually a precursor to a stroke/CVA or heart attack. It may indicate a narrowing of the carotid artery in the neck. This is an embolic event so may resolve without any further symptoms. I would seek further evaluation by your PCP ASAP, or ED if symptoms recur. ...Read more

I developed a blind/ gray spot in my left eye on Wednesday, no headache, blind spot 3 days now. I get waves of nausea 3-4 times a day no vomit yet?

Sounds serious: Something like a retinal detachment could do this. You really need to be seen by an opthalmologist who can look at the back of your eye with a slit lamp. Call your local ED and see whether they have one or could get an eye doctor in to see you if you need it. Good luck! ...Read more

If I close my eyes really tight, my vision kind of greys out when I open them, why is that?

Reduced blood: If you close your eyes really tight, not only does it make the photoreceptors in your eyes more sensitive to light, but you may also be compressing the blood vessels. This would have the effect of overstimulating the photoreceptors, causing you to have funny vision for a few seconds - grey, funny lights, etc. Hope that helps! ...Read more

I have a bit of a fuzzy spot in my eye near my iris ib botheyes. Does not affect my vision. Kind of greyish fuzzy looking. What are they?

Pinguecula: Your question does not provide enough details to be sure what you are asking. If the fuzzy spot is on the white of the eye on the nose side of what appears to be the iris, then the likelihood is that these are pinguecula. Pinguecula are a benign change in the conjunctiva most likely related to dryness and pollution. ...Read more

The whites of my eye have begun to look grey over the last few months. I'm 19. I used to have perfect vision, but due to a vitamin deficiency it died.

Extreme diet: You must be on an extreme, frankly self abusive diet. If vitamin deficiency has caused your vision to "die" then you need immediate, perhaps emergency examination by an ophthalmologist as well as consultation with a nutritionist. This may have some role in the greying of the whites of your eyes. Do not delay in seeking help for this until permanent damage occurs. ...Read more

If im gettin new vains in my eyes everyday and they are grey, could this mean internal bleeding or chirosis? I rest well wats going on?

Probably not: Increased redness of the eyes can have many causes mostly due to problems related to the eyes. Less commonly, eye redness can be related to systemic diseases that can affect the entire body. An eye examination would be a place to start. Depending on the findings, a physical examination and blood tests may also be indicated. ...Read more
