See dr ASAP!: Photophobia (severe light sensitivity) means there could be a problem within the iris, the colored part of the eye, where the tiny muscles are that open and close the pupil. Ignoring this can cause serious trouble in the eye.

How can I heal broken blood vessel in my eye?

How can I heal broken blood vessel in my eye?

Time will heal: Think of this as a very visible "bruise" which will slowly, usually in a week, change color and fade away. If especially large, it can resemble a blood blister and become raised. It can also migrate across the surface of the eye since there is little under the clear membrane to keep it localized. In some people, if it's large, I have seen it creep into the lower lid skin with gravity.

I have a broken blood vessel in my eye. Help?

I have a broken blood vessel in my eye. Help?

In or on surface?: If it is on the surface (you can see it in the mirror) it is most likely not a problem. Occasionally blood vessels break on the surface (called sub-conjunctival hemorrhage) and looks bad, but will resolve on its own. There should not be any pain or vision changes it this occurs. If this happens mutiple times, see and ophthalmologist (there may be undelying cause).

I've had a broken blood vessel in my eye for years. Is there any cure?

I've had a broken blood vessel in my eye for years. Is there any cure?

Broken blood vessel?: Patients with dry eyes and allergies can rub their eyes and experience recurrent broken blood vessels from the physical trauma of rubbing the eyes. In some patients it can be due to elevated inr (too much coumadin) or excessive use of Aspirin or ibuprofen. Treating the dry eye or allergies can reduce this. If you have easy bruising or bleeding, check with your primary care doctor.

Should I go to the doctor if I have a broken blood vessel in my eye?

Should I go to the doctor if I have a broken blood vessel in my eye?

Maybe: If you've had one before, it's a red spot on the white part of the eye that is asymptomatic (only noticed by someone else or in the mirror), that does not affect vision or cause pain, etc. And has been worked up before, then maybe not.

I had a headache and I woke up w/ a broken blood vessel in my eye. Is that abnormal?

I had a headache and I woke up w/ a broken blood vessel in my eye. Is that abnormal?

Probably not related: I don't know how a headache could have caused a bleed on the surface of the eye, unless you had vomiting with the headache. The broken blood vessel is self limited, and is not dangerous.

Coughed or sneezed?: At times, a forceful sneeze or cough can rupture a blood vessel under membrance of the eye--conjuntiva. It is rather common and often causes no pain, only a scary looking eye. Often resolves completely w/o problems. Sometime, there is quite a bit of blood causing a thickening area and thus one can feel something there during a blink/eye movement etc... If u r concerned, consult doc. Good luck.

I've had a broken blood vessel in my eye for more than 3 years already, there's sometimes pressure in the eye it's in. What can I do to get it removed?

Three years!!!!!! '!!: If it's simply, a broken capillary (small vessel) in the underside of the covering layer of the eye (sub conjunctival hemorrhage), it is not serious and will go away within 3 weeks. Why can it still be seen? Why do u feel pressure? You should have seen an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) a long time ago. Go!

How long does it take for a broken blood vessel in the eye to heal?

How long does it take for a broken blood vessel in the eye to heal?

Depends: "broken blood vessel" is actually not a very specific diagnosis. If a small hemorrhage on the eye surface is meant, then it will typically heal and all blood resorbed within 1-2 weeks. If there is a problem in the back of the eye, it may be the tip of the iceberg. Please consider getting a proper evaluation by an eye care professional.

Is it normal to almost faint when you put on your contacts with a broken blood vessel in your eye?

Is it normal to almost faint when you put on your contacts with a broken blood vessel in your eye?

Possible vasovagal…: Event where there is a sudden drop in your blood pressure and you can feel faint, lightheaded, and sweaty. This is a common phenomenon that can occur when the eyes are touched or manipulated. I think that the broken blood vessel is unrelated and will likely resolve just as a bruise in the skin will resolve. All the best!
