I get hand and wrist pain when I wash my hands with cold water. Is this normal?

No, may be Raynaud's: Raynaud's phenomenon is a symptom caused by constriction of small blood vessels, usually in the fingers and toes, leading to a lack of nutrients and oxygen going to the fingers and toes. Raynaud's phenomenon can be due to auto-immune disorders, hormonal imbalances, medication effects, etc... A primary care, endocrinology, or rheumatology doctor can look for raynaud's and other possible causes.

I have OCD and wash my hands and wrists in scolding hot water and have done for about 2 years. Could this give me any health problems?

Yes: You must know that there's a problem here. The anxiety you avoid by the washing looms worse than the pain you experience during and after. You can get help and while it might take lots of trial/error, it can be found. The enemy (OCD) will find ways to attack - you must find ways to protect/defend. Seek good therapt - search till you succeed. Use the stuborness OCDs have on your behalf. It's a tool

Many possibilities: At the top of the list would be some form of wrist tendonitis but other possibilities would include latent injury such as unrecognized scaphoid fracture, ligament sprains, occult masses such as ganglia, avn of the lunate (kienbock's), and tfcc injury (though surely not a classic description). You should have a good exam with plain x-rays and possibly an mri. Best of luck.

Fx radial head a, week ago. Still have pain, swelling of hand & wrist pain. Dr treated with 3 ACE bandage. Unsure if present symptoms are normal?

Need a consultation: A radial head fracture with wrist pain can be a more significant injury. You need an X-ray of the wrist and elbow. If the radial head is depressed it shortens the radius leading to wrist pain. You might need surgery on the radial head. Until then keep moving but wear a sling.

Hand pain and wrist pain when rubbed and weakness. Emg and MRI are normal. Cortisone shot did not help at all. What could this be and how do I treat it?

Hand pain and wrist pain when rubbed and weakness. Emg and MRI are normal. Cortisone shot did not help at all. What could this be and how do I treat it?

See hand consultant: Emg's are technician dependent and can be misinterpreted. Mri"s - I read all of my own, since radiologists sometimes miss subtle findings. Rarely does cortisone help except for tendonitis it is important to get a good history and physical exam. Need to rule out other causes like pronator syndrome (most people do not know how to diagnosis this), cervical radiculopathy, torn ligaments, arthritis.

I am experiencing wrist pain, runny nose, sore throat and nausea (severity: mild) Is this normal when having a cold? Or could it be the flu?

Sx's: The most common symptoms of a cold are sneezing, running nose, feeling tired, congestion and scratchy throat. Additional symptoms can be coughing, headaches, mucus dripping down the back of the throat, loss of appetite and fever (in children). Your wrist pain may be a red herring. People usually feel quite ill with the flu.

Does handwashing with soap and water work better than hand sanitizer?

Does handwashing with soap and water work better than hand sanitizer?

Depends: I think both are adequate as long as they are done correctly. I am not sure there has been a lot of studies in this area but I do know that soap and water is better for one particular bacteria called C. dificile- the main things are time and contact so that the whole hand gets covered and the rubbing helps get bacteria off the hands

I am a baker and today I noticed very sharp wrist pain when scooping things out of bowls or lifting with my right hand. What can I do?

Wrist tendinitis: Is a common issue. At the base of the thumb especially in what is known as the first dorsal compartment, an entity commonly known as dequervain's or stenosing tenosynovitis of the radial styloid can affect thumb motion, wrist motion and writing. Ice, NSAIDs, soft splints and at times an injection can help. Other issues may be arthritis joint pain, nerve pain or just plain old muscle fatigue.
