A seizure is a symptom in which a person has a convulsion or epileptic attack, usually involving jerking movements of the head, limbs, and rest of the body. I started having seizures at 15, but it started after I did some cocaine, what caused it and why?

I started having seizures at 15, but it started after I did some cocaine, what caused it and why?

Adolescence: Adolescence is a typical time for certain types of seizures to show themselves. Drug use, poor health habits, and dramatic hormone changes all contribute. Fortunately the brain can settle down and re-organize. In absence of serious brain pathology, seizures may resolve with time and good management. ...Read more

Can the use of crack cocaine cause seizures in infants?

Can the use of crack cocaine cause seizures in infants?

Yes it could: I assume you mean the mother using crack Cocaine while the baby is still in her uterus? Whatever the mother uses, comes to the baby through the placenta. Absolutely Cocaine can cause problems in the fetus, and seizures once it is born. The baby will be tested for substances, and it could mean child protective services getting involved as well. ...Read more

This is just out of plain curiosity: would you know if you had a seizure? There are so many types, some milder than others - would you know every time

Seizures: You may or may not know you have a seizure depending on the type of seizure. The most helpful clue is the experience of some very stereotyped sensation of feelings before passing out. ...Read more

Husband out of long acting insulin, he has very stinky burps (ketoactosis?) every time has burps like this he has a grand mal seizure, why? Take 2 er?

ER!!!: Yes, please take your husband to the er or call 911. High sugar levels can affect the brain and cause seizures among other things. If he has stopped the Clonazepam abruptly that may also be the trigger for seizures. He will need to have his blood sugar levels brought down and monitored. Your husband needs immediate medical attention so please act abruptly. ...Read more

Can chronic ear infections be the cause of seizures that started on sept. 2012 and once each month every time w ear infection?- 3 y.O. Son with autism

Not Directly...: The answer is more complicated though...A child with developmental or neurologic problems often has a higher risk of having epilepsy. Ilness/infection/fever lower the threshold for triggering a seizure in someone with a seizure disorder. This would seem to need evaluation by a pediatric neurologist as well as an ent. ...Read more

A few weeks back i had a seizure and now I am starting to have problems speaking clearly at random times. Also i get very hot and swaet profusely at t?

NEED TREATMENT: You indicate a generalized seizure, which clearly needs a full assessment as to causation, and probably institution of an anti epileptic medication. The speech issues could represent focal ongoing seizure activity. You need to see a neurologist immediately, head to a local er to start. Do not drive, do activities at heights, use power equipment until fully controlled. Get help now! ...Read more

I am on zeptol 200 thrice a day and I haven't had a focal seizure for a month. Can I get back to swimming. At a times I feel sensations in head.no seiz?

Seizure precautions: should be discussed with your neurologist. I would not engage in "unsupervised" swimming or tub baths. The person who is supervising you should be capable and prepared (strong enough and an expert swimmer) to be able to safely extract you from the pool or tub should you have a breakthrough secondarily generalized seizure. Keep up the good work ! ...Read more

I have tachyarhythmia and reflex anoxic seizures. At times i get sudden heart pain or heart ache. What would be the safest way to strengthen my heart?

Sounds like POTS: Your problem is your autonomic nervous system not your heart. Read the will power instinct by kelly mcgonigal. You will learn to breathe and relax. You should get 8 hours of sleep, eat 6 equal healthy meals with 6 fresh cooked or raw vegetables and 1 apple every day with slow carb whole grains, high quality protein and fats, and do exercises lying down or short exercises like jump roping, no rope. ...Read more

Can someone explain to me why, every now and then I get strange head sensations, like my brain is vibrating? Am I having some kind of mini seizure? Ty

Nah. no mini-seizure: I'm not sure what a mini-seizure is supposed to represent but it's not a vibratory sense in the head. Certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to have a neurologist take a look at you and review your symptoms with you to look at the possibilities. You may benefit from some testing. I'd be happy to discuss things with you in a private consult: www.healthtap.com/drsaghafi ...Read more

Getting episodes of zoning out 5-6 times a day 2 months after car accident (didn't hit head or get knocked out) could these episodes be seizure? Help!

Possibly: Seizures can absolutely present with episodic "zoning out". It is odd that these symptoms would occur after a non-traumatic car accident. See your doctor for a proper evaluation. ...Read more

Have taken 1mg Ativan (lorazepam) every day for 7 straight days trying to get anxiety under control. Can I stop cold turkey or need to taper? Scared of Seizures

You're wise to ask!: It's good to get off Ativan (lorazepam) - your Dr should help you do it safely, but if you need to do it alone, do taper over the next few weeks and watch for symptoms. Here's good info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorazepam#Withdrawal Best is to work w/ doc who prescribed but I'm glad you'll be off soon. It's a risky drug even if it does help when needed. Best! ...Read more

Not a seizure: This is not a seizure. It is probably in your scalp. This is a benign condition which can be handled in many ways. Depending on how long this lasts, a safe, inexpensive medicine can be helpful for this. Consider also if it is affected by moving your head. ...Read more

Uveitis: If the light is bothering the child and he is blinking and squinting his eyes, one may need to rule out uveitis- inflammation of the uveal tissue (especially iritis). Check with the ophthalmologist to make sure that child does not have some kind of inflammation of the eyes. Also if he has abraison of the cornea that can also make tearing, redness and photophobia. ...Read more

At times i cant move my body but my eyes blink rapidly. I feel nothing. After i get light headed and sleepy. What is wrong with me? Is it a seizure?

Possibly: These symptoms are quite possibly due to a seizure. Some seizure types, like partial seizures and absence seizures, do not cause convulsions like you see in movies. While it may not seem like a big deal, it's probably a good idea to see a neurologist to be evaluated and monitored. ...Read more
