See your doc: Three weeks is long enough to see if it was going to heal on its' own. Time to see what the problem is. Maybe just a little median nerve irritation, hard to say without an exam. ...Read more

Why would right index finger be swollen and numb yet still have color?

Why would right index finger be swollen and numb yet still have color?

Possible Infection: A finger that is swollen and numb should be urgently evaluated in-person by a clinician for evidence of infection. An infected finger would typically present as warm and swollen, and because of increased pressure from the swelling, possibly have less sensation. Suggest removing any rings on the affected finger and an in-person clinical evaluation at your earliest convenience. ...Read more

I was hit on my right index finger with a football this morning. It is still numb?

Probably jammed it: Same thing as a sprain. Think of a sprained ankle. Any movable joint is subject to being sprained if you bend it too far. Get a finger cot at pharmacy if it doesn't look too bad. As swelling goes down the numbness will resolve too. ...Read more

I cut my index finger open at work on some steel. Just below the tip going across. Had 4 stitches. 2nd july. Finger all numb still from tip to base.

I cut my index finger open at work on some steel. Just below the tip going across. Had 4 stitches. 2nd july. Finger all numb still from tip to base.

Takes time: I'm not sure why, if your only injury was at the tip of the finger you would be numb at the base of the finger. The tip of the finger is so sensitive that you may just be interpreting loss of sensation at the tip as including the entire finger. Also swelling will cause numbness. The good news is that almost all nerve injuries in a finger regenerate but it can take a year or more. ...Read more

What would cause me to loose feeling in my thumb, index and middle finger on my left hand? I woke up and they were numb this morning and still are.

Nerve issue: This sounds like a nerve issue. Either it was positional when you or sleeping, and it is likely the same nerve, median, that carpal tunnel can affect, or a nerve from your neck or shoulder coming down. Typically this does resolve over time. I would recommend an evaluation if it does not. ...Read more

48 hours ago my left thumb and index finger tips went numb after a firm front neck massage. The feeling has still not returned. Should I see a doctor?

48 hours ago my left thumb and index finger tips went numb after a firm front neck massage. The feeling has still not returned. Should I see a doctor?

Yes: This suggests that you might have something (like an intervertebral disc)pressing on a nerve in your neck. It could be related to the massage if it was forceful enough to put your neck vertebrae out of alignment. You can see an orthopedist but I advise seeing an osteopath who does osteopathic manipulation- see http://physician.academyofosteopathy.org/ (or a direct non-force technique chiropractor) ...Read more

Was severely hypothyroid. Still have swelling of eyes and face (rash) and numbness in feet and index finger. Will that go away?

Correct meds: Are you getting the correct meds? Check free T3 and reverse t3. Ft3 should be in upper range and rt3 in lower range. If your ratio is off, you may need Armour Thyroid or t3, and synthroid (thyroxine) would be the wrong med for you. Also check spot urine iodine to make sure you are not deficient. ...Read more
