My pulse oxygen is staying right around 95-96 what ahould i do? What normal range? And how low can it go?

My pulse oxygen is staying right around 95-96 what ahould i do? What normal range? And how low can it go?

Normal...: The pulse ox you describe is normal for an adult. The pulse ox would be abnormal if it is below 90%. A pulse ox in the low 90's would be worrisome, especially if you feel short of breath. So, a pulse ox of 95-96% is good and it requires no treatment. Why are you checking your pulse ox? If you are short of breath, be sure to see a doctor ASAP, regardless of your pulse ox reading. ...Read more

Can you please explain how and why with low iron sometimes not have a normal amount of oxygen in their blood?

See explanation: Red blood cell have hemoglobin. Hemoglobin carries oxygen to the tissues. If your iron is low, you may be anemic. Therefore the number of red cells is decreased and not as much oxygen is transported to the tissues. ...Read more

What is a normal oxygen level? How low does it need to be to be admitted in the hospital. Mine is reading 94-95

Oxygen: Oxygen at this time of year should be 96 to 98% saturated. Yours is a bit low. That alone, however, is not an indication for hospitalization. In your history i see no evidence of illness or other symptoms that would cause you worry. ...Read more

What is normal levels of oxygen in the blood? What is considered low and what is considered dangerous? Is levels in the 80s ok?

What is normal levels of oxygen in the blood? What is considered low and what is considered dangerous? Is levels in the 80s ok?

Oxygen level....: The oxygen saturation, or pulse oximetry, should be in the 90's normally. Any value of less than 88% on room air qualifies a patient for supplemental oxygen therapy. So, an oxygen saturation in the 80s is not normal. Your doctor will need to find out why your oxygen level is low and provide treatment. ...Read more

Is it normal for healthy person to have low oxygen on flight? Dipped down to 91-89 on my last flight and had a headache. Worried about undiagnosed PE.

Is it normal for healthy person to have low oxygen on flight? Dipped down to 91-89 on my last flight and had a headache. Worried about undiagnosed PE.

Stop: Why are you checking your oxygen on a flight? If it constantly stays below 89 for more than 5 min AND you feel short of breath, have chest pain, or pain and swelling in your legs then start to worry and see a doctor. Portable pulse oximeter readings bounce around all the time- it is usually from motion artifact and not a true reading. Try browsing the in-flight magazine to pass the time... ...Read more

Is an oxygen saturation of 93 to 95 normal or too low? Live in a city 300mts altitude. Stop smoking since 2 weeks. 35 years male. Txs from brazil

Is an oxygen saturation of 93 to 95 normal or too low? Live in a city 300mts altitude. Stop smoking since 2 weeks. 35 years male. Txs from brazil

Oxygen...: You don't need supplemental oxygen unless your pulse ox is less than 88%. Most healthy 35 year olds have an oxygen saturation of at least 95% but there can be many reasons for having an oxygen sat in the lower 90's including being overweight, bronchospasm, gerd, etc. So, if you are short of breath or if your oxygen sat is persistently in the low 90's, see your doctor for evaluation/treatment. ...Read more

Oximeter is giving a reading of 92 with a pulse of 103 for a 3 year old that has asthma while asleep after xopenex (levalbuterol). Is this normal? Is oxygen too low?

See below: A pulse ox of 92% indicates a moderate asthma attack. Pulse is normal. More importantly is wether or not your child is responding to treatment. Proper treatment can prevent the attack from becoming severe with a pulse ox <90%. You want to prevent that. CALL YOUR PEDIATRICIAN FOR ADVICE. If unable to reach he/she have your child evaluated in ER/EC ...Read more

In ER w/ numb cheek+ arm, pallor. CBC + EKG normal.Oximeter showed 99% sat. BUT venous gas blood O2 saturation LOW at 0.34 (ref. range 0.5-0.8). WHY?

In ER w/ numb cheek+ arm, pallor. CBC + EKG normal.Oximeter showed 99% sat. BUT venous gas blood O2 saturation LOW at 0.34 (ref. range 0.5-0.8). WHY?

Extraction or anemia: The oximeter only shows the amt of oxygen binding of the existing hemoglobin in the ARTERIES. JUST BECAUSE UR SATS R FINE DOESN'T MEAN EVERYTHING IS FINE. This is a common mistake even docs make. In ur case, the VENOUS blood has lower O2 content. It cd mean the body is using up more O2 (more extraction) d/t infx,, vascular probs, smoking, etc. Or u cd be anemic. Less Hgb = lower O2 content. TTYD! ...Read more

Would low O2 saturation levels at night below 90 for 2 to 3 hours with Cpap result from breast cancer radiation ? Normal lung function , chest X-ray

Would low O2 saturation levels at night below 90 for 2 to 3 hours with Cpap result from breast cancer radiation ? Normal lung function , chest X-ray

Probably not: Radiation damage to the lung can be detected functionally on pulmonary function tests. If your pulmonary function tests are completely normal, it would be unlikely that radiation lung damage was the cause of the fall in 02 saturation. ...Read more
