Many possible causes: There are many potential causes of the symptoms you describe. They can be narrowed down by a good history and physical examination by your physician. They may want to confirm the diagnosis with testing, then treatment can be discussed. See your doctor ASAP, to get this resolved. Call 911 if you're thinking of hurting yourself or others. Have depression for years, plus acne, despite being 31. Symptoms: temper, irritability, fatigue, sleep issues, NO motivation. Could cause be Cortisol?

Depression: Cortisol imbalance can manifest in mood swings, fatigue, sleep issues, etc. Consider seeing a nutritionally oriented doc or a nutritionist. A blood test called Micronutrient panel can be useful. See www. Spectracell. Com for more info. See "Feeling Good" which is a book by David Burns for some cognitive therapy self help. See doc to rule out medical conditions and then an mental health pro.

Dr just raised my venlafaxine from 150 mg. To 225 mg. What should I expect and will it help with OCD and irritability, moodiness, depression?

Expect improvement.: It generally is more effective against depression and even OCD at 225 mg., but don't expect much help for moodiness or irritability at that dosage.

Why do I have flu-like symptoms (joint pain, weakness, fatigue, irritability, brain fog) for days after eating one piece of junk food (i.E. Candybar)?

Why do I have flu-like symptoms (joint pain, weakness, fatigue, irritability, brain fog) for days after eating one piece of junk food (i.E. Candybar)?

Unrelated: It is extremely unlikely that candybar has anything to do with your symptoms. You may have a common cold, flu, reaction to medication and in uncommon cases it may be a prodrome of a more serous illness. If the symptoms do not abate in week, it would be prudent to see your doctor.

Why is a feeling of tiredness and lethargy connected to depression?

Depression: There are unfortunately many circumstances that lead to depression. I would start with a visit to a Psychologist and if needed you would be advised to also see a Psychiatrist.

I am on Lexapro (escitalopram) for the last 10 weeks. I feel very depressed and irritable. Could Lexapro (escitalopram) be the cause. I am always tired. Thanks?

I am on Lexapro (escitalopram) for the last 10 weeks. I feel very depressed and irritable. Could Lexapro (escitalopram) be the cause. I am always tired. Thanks?

See below: If you have been on Lexapro (escitalopram) for 10 weeks, and you are feeling this bad, then it is not the right medication for you. It is possible that it could also be making you feel worse (can sometimes happen to some people). Ask your doctor to change your antidepressant - there are lots of other options. Also, since you are 57, make sure you don't have any medical problems causing these symptoms.

My daughter has a ferritin level of 1. She is 20. Tired, irritable and gets depressed. Are the two linked.

My daughter has a ferritin level of 1. She is 20. Tired, irritable and gets depressed. Are the two linked.

Maybe: You should be extremely concerned over your daughter's iron deficiency. The cause needs to be sought and found. It may make her tired but should not cause depression; this should be addressed separately and objectively.

Can fatigue or tiredness caused by work make one feel depressed?

Yes: It is more likely to be a symptom of depression rather than causing depression. History and time course of symptoms is important-sounds like an evaluation in order by a dr or knowledgeable counselor.

Have lupus. Struggle w:fatigue despite exercise, eating healthy. Lupus is stable so my MD assumes depression. Frustrated. Is this common in lupus patients

Yes: Many chronic diseases lead to fatigue and even depression. Of course you may feel frustrated as to why you can't do the same things as your peers- even sunbathing would be a no-no. One will also have to rule out side effects from the medications taken to control this disease.

Is my fatigue caused by depression something physical?

Is my fatigue caused by depression something physical?

R/o physical symptom: Fatigue can be a symptom of depression, physical ailment or both. In order to diagnose depression, physical problems need to be ruled out. I would recommend going to your primary care doctor and have a full check up. If everything is fine, or if there's a physical ailment, I would still recommend contacting mental health provider to help you cope with your symptoms.

What do you suggest to beat the fatigue of depression?

Symptoms & circuits: My friend and colleague stephen m. Stahl, md, pH. D., frequently talks about "symptoms and circuits" in depression. One hypothetical "circuit" is the histamine neurotransmitter system. He hypothesizes that a deficiency in histamine neurotransmission can be associated with the crushing fatigue frequently seen in depression. Provigil and Nuvigil are two "off label" treatments for this.
