My hands swell and hurt as well as pain in kidneys. I can't close hands and i drop things a lot. What could this be?

Don't give up: Not sure why the rheumatologist didn't offer help, but it sounds like you need further evaluation. You are too young to have pain in several joints. If you have a primary care physician i would bring your concerns to that doctor and see what more can be done. Many issues: 1: You should see a Psychologist. 2: I don't know your age but assume it is age 30 or more. Type 2 diabetes can be totally corrected so you will not have diabetes. Absolutely!: Can be due to pain reflex. Structural damge and weakness of hands. Secondary carpal tunnel. Weakness from nerve root compression in the cervical spine. Many possibilities. What causes a person to drop things easily? Hard to open things too, writing changes&tremors everywhere( chronic)?
SEVERAL ISSUES: First, the dropping of objects and description of poor grip strength, and writing issues raises thought of median nerve issues, and indeed may be "carpal tunnel sydrome". An EMG test can help.
