Bleeding finger: As with any abrasion or minor scrape, most of this bleeding stops when bandaged as you have done. That means that basically if there's not blood running from the wound it's probably okay, but if there is flesh hanging someplace on the wound you should have it checked definitely in an emergency room!

Very unlikely: Even if the person has HIV the risk is very low that you got it. If the person is HIV negative, there is no risk. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.

Cut my hand when dropping a glass of water, I cleaned it u and put bandages on it, should I be concerned or will it work out on its own?

Concerns are present: There are a number of concerns related to hand lacerations. It may need stitches to heal properly and give you return of normal function. In addition, there are a number of important structures such as nerves and tendons that are fairly superficial and are frequently injured with hand lacerations. Without a lot more information it is probably best to have it looked at.

A few points.: If it's a deep cut, it may scar and take longer to heal if not sutured (you have 24 hours). Change the dressing every day so you can inspect the wound for signs of infection (increasing redness, pus, swelling, tenderness). If infection develops, antibiotics are needed. A Tetanus shot is required every 10 years.

Needs evaluation: Cuts of the hand can be extremely painful. Paper cuts for example. You need to be checked for signs of infection and possibly approximation if appropriate to stop tension on the affected nerves. There is a golden period during which suturing can be done and you may have exceeded that.

I received a cut when I accidentally cut my index finger with a box cutter a few days ago, I cleaned it up and put a bandaid on it Andthought nothing?

Cut- self treated: If you cut yourself a few days ago and you have not had any symptoms as yet I am betting you're already vaccinated with tetanus toxoid vaccine. If your finger is healing, you have done a great job. If there is a swelling, redness, pus, a gaping hole, pain, numbness and inability to move the finger then please see your gp

Inflamed or infected: This could be a simple urticarial response where nobodies white cells are producing histamines causing the itch… It could also represent early or superficial infection…if it becomes painful or produces pus you may need a stronger antibiotic by mouth

If I cut a vein on the back of my hand. Would it need stitches?

If I cut a vein on the back of my hand. Would it need stitches?

Sometimes.: Bleeding from veins can usually be stopped with direct pressure and elevation. Whether or not stitches are needed is dependent more on the size of the incision than on veins being cut.

So I'm curious if I cut a vein on the back of my hand would it need stitches?

Sometimes.: Whether or not you would require stitches would depend on the size of the cut and the amount of bleeding. A small cut could be treated without stitches and a larger cut would need to be sewn. Slight bleeding can be controlled by pressure and more bleeding needs medical attention.

Is it safe to eat food served by someone with bandaids on fingers, which means cuts on hands.

Is it safe to eat food served by someone with bandaids on fingers, which means cuts on hands.

Don't worry: The risks of infection from eating food that has been touched by someone, even with open wounds, is very low. If the person had certain rare transmissible diseases there could be some slight risks but not worth worrying about if you feel well.

4mos ago had IV put in vein of wrist. Since then it hurts to move hand too quickly or lift anything heavy. Locks up when I stretch. Is this serious?

4mos ago had IV put in vein of wrist. Since then it hurts to move hand too quickly or lift anything heavy. Locks up when I stretch. Is this serious?

Needs evaluation.: It sounds like you may have a clot in the vein from the iv. This is very common and not serious but certainly it does cause discomfort. It could also be an irritation of the nerve in the area but this is less likely than a problem with the vein. You can try heat applications and ibuprofen. If this doesn't help, then you should see your physician.

Had a blood test yesterday and hole itching but ooze a tiny bit. I continue to cover with a bandaid until totally healed (since the vein was cut)?

Had a blood test yesterday and hole itching but ooze a tiny bit. I continue to cover with a bandaid until totally healed (since the vein was cut)?

Wait and see.: After a blood test, the hole will heal in a few days. The itching is probably due to the alcohol used to clean your arm first, or may be due to the bandage tape. Usually, when you stop bleeding, you can take the bandage off. But if you are working in a dirty environment, then do leave it covered for a few days (unless the tape is making you itchy).

If you cut your knuckles or the top of your hand would it cut your vein?

If you cut your knuckles or the top of your hand would it cut your vein?

Yes: There are microscopic capillary veins all over your skin. These bleed whenever you get a cut (doctors might call this capillary ooze). If you have prominent hand veins, these can get cut and bleed just like any other vein. If this happens, hold your hand above the level of your heart to slow bleeding and apply pressure.

Ever since I had an IV put in the back of my hand I've had these bumps or knots in my veins. Can this be a serious problem?

Very common: I'm an inpatient doctor and see this often. This should go away in days. Sometimes this is from inflammation of the skin or veins because the IV irrigated it. The may even me a very small clot in the veins. You can put a warm wet towel over the area for 15 min every hour to help. It should improve. If not after a few days or if getting worse, then get it checked out.

Are there concerns when shaking hands with someone who has scabs or bandaids on their hands? I was introduced to someone who had cuts/bandaids on hand

Are there concerns when shaking hands with someone who has scabs or bandaids on their hands? I was introduced to someone who had cuts/bandaids on hand

Little or no risk: We all have daily contact with other persons' hands -- shaking hands, exchanging money, etc. Many of them have sores, scabs, etc on the hands and mostly you don't know about it. Even without sores, such contact can spread germs like cold viruses and bacteria like staph or strep, Probably no greater risk from this person than anyone else. This is why frequent hand washing is a good health habit.
