Knee pain: hello ~ do you remember twisting the knee because that is really important. Painful knee such that you cannot flex it at your age needs to be seen by an ER doc or reg doc; the differential here could be strain/sprain/torn ligaments if trauma present a torn meniscus or plain osteo-arthritis. Could be diet relatd: It would be best for you to see your doctor to rule out a dietary deficiency as the is an atypical presentation for someone so young. Your primary care or a Sports medicine specialist can do this for you and send you to Physical therapy for strengthening In the meantime plenty of fruit, vegetables and don't forget some source of protein even if you are vegan. Cartilage damage?: you could have an internal derangement that is causing your clicking and pain. If you haven't had it checked out yet, see an orthopedic specialist. Locking knee: Sounds like a condition known as chondromalacia or if you have had a knee injury in the past it could be due to a meniscal tear. Locking of the knee is generally the result of a free body of some kind. You may need an MRI on the knee to make the diagnosis, and an orthopedic consult. ...Read more

Need x-rays to know: Twisting of the knee most commonly results in a ligament sprain and/or a cartilage tear. However, fractures and dislocations can result from a twist as well. Unless you improve very rapidly, i recommend a physician evaluation, and most likely, x-rays will be the initial imaging study.
