I Burned My Hand On The Oven Rack Is It A Good Idea To Put Ice Over It
Hi the other day while I was baking. My wrist hit a hot rack in the oven, and I got a pretty bad burn? What's the best way to get rid of the scar?
Depends in deprh: Superficial (1st degree) burns with redness require minimal treatment with an ointment & possible nsaids (if not sensitive). Partial thickness burns (2nd & 3rd degree) with blisters must be treated with topical antibiotics (bacitracin for face - silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) for body) if not allergic in order to minimize the risk of infection which may increase the amount of tissue damage. Sulfamylon for ear eschars. ...Read more

Iv had this burning sensation in my hands, feet and chest since I was little, it comes randomly or when I can't focus, I have no idea what it could be.
Anxiety?: I have no idea either. I't possible it could be a hyperventilation symptom or just anxiety. I would be interested to see if anyone out there has any ideas. I can tell you that since it has been present for many years without significant change it is very unlikely to represent anything harmful. ...Read more

I need to know if I have first or second degree burn on my hand & wrist. I layed my hand down on a cookie sheet that had just come out of a 450* oven?
Blisters?: If there is some blistering or that top layer of epithelium has denuded so its shiny and pink, but still blanches with pressure it's second degree. If no blisters, just pink and painful, it's first. Treatment same at this point- would place neosporin. If it crosses joints or is insensate, doesn't blanche or large area you should be seen by doc. ...Read more
Sharp pain in wrist, travels up my hand into first 2 knuckles. Last night hand swelled up, slight burning sensasion when swelled. Any idea?
Repetitive wrist motion: Can cause this, similar to carpal tunnel syndrome. Often if you're typing a lot, doing hours of computer work, or playing piano or an instrument for hours, you can tighten these areas in the midback, and shoulders where the the arm is receiving innervation from the cervical/thoracic nerve roots. That can cause your wrists to swell, if the nerve is inflamed, necessitating splints. See a doctor (DO). ...Read more

I have muscle fading in both hands along with numbness and burning, both hands more right then left. Feels like my muscles in right arm jump ideas?
Not sure what:
You mean by "fading" but it sounds like you might need a referral to a NEUROLOGIST if you are experiencing muscle loss of bulk or weakness along with paresthesias (numbness). A neurologic exam may be followed by a ECG/NCS (Nerve muscle study)!!
PS Some Orthopedic physicians (Upper Extremity/Hand) Specialists may also be the way to go especially if your OCCUPATION involves REPETITIVE MOTION!!

The fleshy part of my hand under the thumb area has a dull, burning sensation that's been sore for over a month everyday, all day. Any ideas? Thanks
Burning in the hand:
This sounds like a form of carpal tunnel syndrome. This pinching of the nerves going into the hand can especially affect the muscles that move the thumb. If not treated these muscles can deteriorate and you can get grip weakness.
It sounds like you need to be seen by a hand or nerve expert. ...Read more

I burned my thumb on a pizza oven at work a few days ago went to the drs got cream and meds for 2nd degree burn my arm is throbbing and painful why?
Burn: Second degree burns may be superficial or deep. They blister as second layer of 3 skin layers are damaged. Swelling ensues, pain usual for few days. Since top layer skin is gone, heals by granulation and usually takes about 6 weeks. Similar to being " skinned" but peel off 1st and 2nd layer of skin. Follow ur dr. S instructions for care. As dressing usually necessary. ...Read more
Better Ideas: Burns are the response of the tissues to injury from heat. It is simply inflammation which means increase blood flow to the area to promote healing. Depth determines care. Do not use ice worsens already injured skin. Cool water soaks help as can taking anti-inflammation medicines like Motrin or advil (ibuprofen). Avoid any further damage as this can cause scarring. Good skin cream applied daily/gently helps. ...Read more

I put some vegetables in the oven to roast them (without oil) and was wondering if it's a bad idea cause of nutrient loss?
Not necessarily: Some veggies like broccoli and tomatoes, for instance, are actually better (more nutritious) when cooked (sauteed, steamed, etc). Roasting potatoes, squash, asparagus, artichokes, onions, red bell peppers, etc are all tasty and nutritious ways to eat veggies. For more on the raw vs cooked controversy, see here: http://tinyurl. Can I burn calories riding stationary bike and is it a good idea with bad knee? I have TKR coming up in February. Also, should I get second opinion? Ty
Yes you can: Biking is usually a good exercise option for those with knee osteoarthritis. It is non-impact and tolerated by most. Honestly, with an upcoming knee replacement, it's unlikely your arthritis will worsen between now and then. The biking can keep your muscles toned and may help you in your rehabilitation after surgery. A second opinion is always a wise idea before undergoing a major surgery. ...Read more
