I Broke My Elbow Three Days Ago Why Is My Pinky Finger Still Numb
I had a broken elbow repaired May 29th which involved a plate and 10 screws. My hand and fingers are still swollen even though I am exercising ?
Swelling post-op: Some swelling post operatively is normal, even after 1 month. Increased exercise may increase swelling if the exercises are too strenuous and taxing on the elbow. Be sure to be going to a Physical therapist post op who is trained in this sort of procedure and post-op care and rehabilitative services. Each person is different, so it is imperative for continuity of care you follow-up with surgeon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Surgery 3 years ago for pinched nerve wrist & elbow still have pain & numbness of ring finger, pinky & top of hand, are my nerves permanently damaged?
I've been having numbness in my left ring an pinky finger the past 3 days. The week prior I had severe pain in the area behind my elbow. This tells me it's a pinched nerve. Is there anything I can do without going to a doctor?
You might try ..: .... an over-the-counter wrist splint. I concur with your diagnosis that some nerve compression is going on, and it may be at the elbow, but even stabilizing the ulnar nerve (suppliers of the 4th and 5th digits) at the wrist could help. Anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen/naproxen could reduce swelling if this is part of the problem. If it goes on a week or more, you should contact your doctor ...Read more
Think have pinched nerve in elbow from studding at desk too long. My hand and pinky finger have been numb for 2 days. What do I do?
May reverse: Avoid all leaning on elbow, and be protective. Take a daily B-100 complex. Also, try OTC ibuprofen or Aleve (naproxen) three times daily. If no rapid improvement over next 10-14 days, see your physician. This is likely to be temporary, but hard to predict. If starts worsening, such as more numbness, loss of hand strength, will need to act much faster. ...Read more

Think hav a pinched nerve in my elbow from studding at desk too long, My hand & pinky finger hav been numb like its asleep for 2 days. What do I do?
Generic advice: Avoid leaning on your elbow, or bumping your elbow. A B-100 complex might add some support. An anti-inflammatory such as Aleve (naproxen) or Ibuprofen might blunt the inflammation. Minor nerve pinching could reverse within a few weeks, but deeper damage may take months. If does not depart or gets worse, may need to have an EMG test. Nerve Entrapment: If this doesn't resolve after a few days, consider seeing a sports medicine doctor or physiatrist to see if there is any testing needed to be done regarding that burning pain and hand numbness issue. Elbow clicks when bent, been 2 years. Numbness in pinky and ring finger, gone when no physical activity for a few weeks. Maybe ulnar nerve?
Probably ulnar nerve: The numbness is almost certainly coming from the ulnar nerve. The clicking may be coming from the nerve flipping in and out of its groove. However, if the clicking is not coming from the inner side of the elbow, it is something else. At age 20, I would not ignore the numbness. ...Read more
