I Am Severly Constipated Can I Take A Stool Sofner And A Laxative Together And If So Witch Would Be Best Together
I am constipated and have slight runny stools should I take a laxative also am freezing and have a temperature
White Mucous not much real stool. Where is the stool if not passing. Is it piling up like constipation.? Should I take laxative?
Also increase your intake of fiber and water.
You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.

I am recovering from an eating disorder what can I take when I get constipated with out it being a laxative to help pass the stool?
I took a stool softener (max 3 pills/24 hours) and waited 12 hours, can I take a laxative (1-2 pills)? the stool softener didn't relieve constipation.
Is it okay to take a laxative after being constipated from taking Imodium (loperamide)? tried Stool softeners, but that didn't work.
Brother facing acute constipation. He is advised to take laxatives & stool softeners along with increase fiber & fluids. Any med or anything he can do!
Constipation: Fiber, fluids, stool softeners & laxatives are good standard recommendations. Don't forget exercise - seriously! Try to avoid medications if possible b/c no such thing as free lunch eg no side effects. PEG or Miralax appears safe enough after yrs of bowel prep to be available OTC. Amitiza (lubiprostone) & Linzess are 2 new meds. Make sure to find cause: hypothyroidism, colon cancer, narcotics, anticholinergics. ...Read more
Is it safe to take the recommended amount of stimulant and stool softening laxatives consistently to relieve constipation caused by psychotropic meds?
Use fiber: The ideal would be to eat your fiber in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet, as well as to increase your intake of water to help with constipation. Then using stool softeners daily is fine (must drink water with those). Try not to take laxatives but those that simply add fiber and bulk are ok, such as miralax, metamucil, fibercon, citrucel, etc. Also ok is amitiza, (lubiprostone) by rx. ...Read more
I've seen different types of OTC laxatives (stimulant, saline, stool softeners, etc.). Which would be best for occasional treatment of constipation?
If occasional: It doesn't matter much what you take, but it sounds like you have a number of GI issues. The best way to treat constipation is to avoid it, but taking in adequate fluid and a good amount of fiber, preferably from natural sources (like fruits/vegetables with lots of roughage). Stimulant laxatives can lead to dependency, and I generally recommend avoiding them. Occasionaf milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) is ok. ...Read more
I need to take stool softners or laxatives to have a bowel movement. What could be the reason for this? About a 2 months ago I thought I was constipated so I took a laxative. Ever since then I haven't been able to have a bowel movement without using one o
Change your diet and: Fluids. Eat a high fiber diet between 20-25 grams per day, regular meal times and drink 80-100 oz of caffeine free alcohol free fluids daily. If you exercise and should add 20 oz per 30 minutes of strenuous exercise. Some meds contribute to constipation so take the meds with full glass of fluid instead of a sip in addition to the above recommended fluids. ...Read more
Laxatives: It is preferable to avoid laxatives and instead increase daily fluid intake, increase your daily intake of fiber (you could also take metamucil). If you still have hard stools, take a daily stool softener like colace (docusate sodium). If still sluggish take something like senokot (has softener and gentle stimulant) daily. Reserve dulcolax only if you have no urge at all to move your bowels, but avoid daily laxatives ...Read more
I am suffering from constipation with blood after the stool. I had used laxatives and I recovered but when I stoped, the constipation turned back!
Fiber Diet: The blood in the stools could be due to 'hemorroids/piles' due to your chronic constipation, because you constantly strain at the stools. Eat lot of fiber (fruits), if that doesn't help, evaluation by your physician is needed. Chronic laxative use is not good for the bowels as they get trained. ...Read more
Do laxatives (used carefully of course) help with the pre-existing stool and constipation, or only provide relief for stool formed thereafter?
Both: More fiber-containing foods is largely preventive. Safest bulking agents, i.e. psyllium may help add water to stool & works in 12-72 hours. Lubricants/mineral oil makes the stool more slippery & works in 6-8 hrs. Hydrating agents (MOM, epsom salts) concentrate more water within stool & works in 30 min-6 hrs. Glycerin supps/lactulose take 30 min-3 hrs. Use stimulants/cascara, senna with caution. ...Read more
Mucous in stool: It is normal to have some mucus in stools, but if it is very noticeable for an extended time, you need to discuss this with your toddler's pediatrician. One thing, if your toddler is constipated on a daily basis, the mucus could be due to that. Mucus in the stool can be due also to infection (due to antibiotic usage?), irritable bowel or an obstruction. See the pediatrician to be sure. ...Read more
Since l used imipramine 2 years ago I have constipation, hard stools and very less in quantity. Laxatives only work temperoly. What is permanent cure?
Constipation and: Hemorrhoid management work together. Increasing fiber--whole grain bread/cereal, fruits and veggies--generous water intake and more exercise should help regularity. OTC creams or suppositories can improve the pain/symptoms of hemorrhoids and stop the bleeding. You should only use them about a week. If bleeding persists, see doc for eval and possible rubber band ligation or injection of hemorrhoid ...Read more

My mother suffers from constipation. She can 't defecate w/o a laxative. She tried fiber, mucilax, and stool softeners but to no avail.?
See below.: Needs evaluation by her primary care doc to make sure there is no underlying anatomic or physiologic defect. The whole key to constipation is prevention and consistency. Not, as I often see, a continual juggling of meds with last minute enemas for relief. She may require a daily combination of several agents at small or moderate dose in order to stay regular and comfortable. ...Read more
