I am just under 8 stone. Is this healthy weight?

See below: First, for all who don't know, 1 stone (used in parts of northern europe) is equal to 14 lbs or 6.35 kg. So 8 stone = 112 lbs. Now, for the question, it depends on your gender & height (assuming you're over age 15). You could also consider body type (high vs. Low muscle mass). ...Read more

My friend is 5 ft 5 and is at a healthy weight of 8 stone but she has an obsession with her weight and she thinks she's fat, how can I help her?

Talk to her: Tell her what you are thinking and that you are concerned that her self perception is not accurate. Let her know that you want her to remain healthy and that obsessing about her weight worries you. Suggest that she consider speaking with a therapist about her obsession with being fat. ...Read more

When I reached healthy weight, still had high cholest.. Had gallbladder sympt, no stones. Rec. Hida scan for possible "sand." gallbldder sand=hi chol?

Gallbladder problem: The classic presentation of acute cholecystitis (gallbladder attack) is due to gall stones, but many people have only what is called "sludge", which is a residue of fine granular material--the same that is in a stone--but it doesn't coalesce into a stone. In many people this sludge causes no symptoms, but in a few it can cause symptoms just like acute gallstone(2). This is not a marker for hi chol. ...Read more

I'm 16 years old and I am round about 5 ' 7 and my body is like an hour glass type snap is 15.5 stone a healthy weight for me?

Body mass index /BMI: If my calculations are correct 15.5 stone is about 217 pounds, that puts your BMI (weight for height) at around 33.9 which is not a healthy weight for you. Discuss with your doctor the best approach for you to get to a healthy weight. ...Read more

My daughter wants to lose weight but I think she is a healthy weight already well at least she looks it she is 10 yrs 142cm tall and weights 7.7 stone?

BMI is 24.1: Which is at about 96 percentile for her age, above 25 is over weight, above 30 is obesity. Need to watch her calories, avoid fast food and sweets as as much as you can & increase physical activity. Check these links For height and weight http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/data/set2clinical/cj41c072.pdf For BMI http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/data/set1clinical/cj41l024.pdf Remember 1 stone = 6.35 kgs ...Read more

Diet and muscle mass: To gain weight you have to consume more calories than you are burning. Do this in a healthy way though. Don't choose junk or fast food. Keep a well balanced diet and make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need. Don't cut out exercise as it is very good for you. Weight lifting and other muscle building exercises can help you increase your body mass. ...Read more

I am 5ft 4 height and weigh 9 stones 10 pounds is my weight healthy?

I am 5ft 4 height and weigh 9 stones 10 pounds is my weight healthy?

Stones?: Most of us on this side of the pond think of stones as "mick and the boys", not as 14 pounds! generally speaking, 8-10 stones would be fine for 5 feet 4 inches of height. Each individual is different, and some have good reason to stay on the slimmer side (such as a person with pre-diabetes or high cholesterol problems). ...Read more

How much weight should you lose a month and how much is unhealthy i'm 5.6 and was 14 stone 10 pounds and lost 1 stone and 6 pounds is that healthy?

How much weight should you lose a month and how much is unhealthy i'm 5.6 and was 14 stone 10 pounds and lost 1 stone and 6 pounds is that healthy?

Glad you are losing: Here's a thought that i think many healthtap team members will agree with. Weight that you lose as part of a lifestyle change that you are likely to make permanent is the right amount of weight for you to lose in a unit time. Weight that's lost tormenting yourself or doing things you hate is unhealthy -- even if it's just a bit. Replace overeating with new fitness activities you really enjoy. ...Read more

I eat maybe once a day. When i eat it's always healthy, fresh food. I am active. Yet i can't lose this weight. Please assess my meds and cast stones.

No stones to cast: The frequency and "healthy choices" involved with your meal plan won't by itself cause you to lose weight. Ultimately, it's calories in, calories out. I'm troubled that a man who's 23 is on Clonazepam maintenance and also takes Codeine for some reason. The best gift you can give yourself is a disciplined fitness-focused lifestyle change -- it'll bring weight loss, better friends, and peace inside. ...Read more

Losing weight: To lose weight, get ur resting metabolism rate done(weight loss centers do this). This determines the total number of calories you need to lose 1-2lbs/week. Decreasing 500cal/day will give you a 1lb wt loss in 1wk; drink water (1/2 your body weight), eat small meals about 150-200cal 2-4x/(depending on your metabolism rate) and 500cal/meal at night: lean protein/veggies; avoid carbs, . ...Read more

Hi im a24 year old woman and just woundering what weight should i be as im 6 stone and thank u ?

What's your height?: As a starting point for discussing appropriate weight, check out http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm. Of note, this is not the be all & end all. Very muscular athletes will show up as overweight & obese (http://www.menshealth.com/fitness/the-problem-with-BMI). At the opposite extreme, you don't want to be skinny fat either where you're the right weight but all flab. ...Read more

What is the average body fat index for someone of height 6"1' and weight 11 stone 8 pounds? What would be considered abnormal and what are ways to reduce/increase it?

Incomplete info;BMI3: To calculate your body fat index (BFI), we need to know your waist circumference. Then, based on the BFI, we can tell if it is "abnormal" or if it is acceptable. For instance, if your waist is 40 in (& you're a male), then your BFI is about 23% & would be acceptable (less than 25%). Your BMI is 31, BTW, suggesting obesity; reducing the BFI usually involves exercise & healthy eating as the 1st step ...Read more

No: BMI %tile 48: In children, rather than use common place (and easy to calculate body mass index (BMI)), we use BMI percentile (which takes gender into account, unlike adult BMI), w/normal as 5-85%. Check out http://nccd.cdc.gov/dnpabmi/Calculator.aspx where 8 stone = 112 pounds & I assume your 5'4", not Tom Thumb-size 5.4". Your BMI is 19.2 & BMI %tile is 48 which is just right! But don't forget to exercise. ...Read more

I weigh 8.8 stone & I am 5'8 i would really like to put done weight on, is there anything i can do?

Yes!: Of course, the healthiest course would be to put on muscle as well as some fat - so please exercise along with increasing your food intake. Concentrate on eating 5 small meals a day with lean meats, dairy, vegetables and fruits. Starches are ok for you, but quickly converted to sugar and fat - so best not to overdo these. Good luck! ...Read more

How can I lose weight faster? I have already lost 4 stone but have a lot more to lose to be 8.5 stone.

How can I lose weight faster? I have already lost 4 stone but have a lot more to lose to be 8.5 stone.

Congratulations!: 1 stone = 14 #s - so you have lost 56 #s! congratulations! with > 100 #s left - think you have already lost 30 %! the most important thing is variety - change up what you are doing if your at a plateau - re-group - if your seeing an md or nutritionist - ask for a new calorie goal - you are a different person now than you started this journey ( different starting weight now vs then) and your caloric restriction will be different now to continue seeing loss of weight. - same applies to exercise - muscle confusion is key- change-up your routine - add intervals - change intensity- keep up the good work! congrats! ...Read more
