I am just under 8 stone. Is this healthy weight?

I am just under 8 stone. Is this healthy weight?

See below: First, for all who don't know, 1 stone (used in parts of northern europe) is equal to 14 lbs or 6.35 kg. So 8 stone = 112 lbs. Now, for the question, it depends on your gender & height (assuming you're over age 15). You could also consider body type (high vs. Low muscle mass). ...Read more

I am 20 and i'm worried about my weight I weight 12stone 6 and am 5ft 8, is this a healthy weight to be?

I am 20 and i'm worried about my weight I weight 12stone 6 and am 5ft 8, is this a healthy weight to be?

Maybe, maybe not: Healthtap doctors are american physicians, so we talk in pounds and ounces. I'm guessing a stone is 14 pounds, so 12 stone 6 = 174 pounds? That might be ok, depending on whether a person is male, female, has lots of muscle, has little muscle, etc... The question of "healthiness" depends on other conditions (a person with diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, etc... Would do better being lighter). ...Read more

I am on a healthy eating plan and exercising . I am losing inches but not losing weight? Why is that?

I am on a healthy eating plan and exercising . I am losing inches but not losing weight? Why is that?

Need calorie count: You may be eating more than you think and the calories you are burning off with exercise may be less than you think. Try figuring out these numbers before you give up your good work. Also, it is not unusual that in the early phases of dieting and exercise, your body is changing (adding muscle, losing fat) where you will not see much change at the scale. Keep going, it will get better. ...Read more

Increase calories: The more calories you eat the more you will gain. Some people are naturally thin in young adulthood, and can eat amazing amounts of calories without gaining. If you are this type, you will have a difficult time gaining weight until you are in your 40's. ...Read more

Losing weight: To lose weight, get ur resting metabolism rate done(weight loss centers do this). This determines the total number of calories you need to lose 1-2lbs/week. Decreasing 500cal/day will give you a 1lb wt loss in 1wk; drink water (1/2 your body weight), eat small meals about 150-200cal 2-4x/(depending on your metabolism rate) and 500cal/meal at night: lean protein/veggies; avoid carbs, . ...Read more

I am 5ft 4in and 154 pounds is this a healthy weight?

Overweight: This is in the overweight category according to body mass index. Another important question would be your waist-to-hip ratio which is an indicator of health risks. You would want to reduce your weight slowly at no more than 1-2 pounds per week until you reach your goal. Check out this simple online tool at www.Webmd.Com/diet/calc-bmi-plus. ...Read more

Hello I'm 5'5 and my BMI is at 30 and a male, I feel like I've been losing weight. Even after eating a big meal no weight gain.. Could this be diabete?

Possible: Hi. Unintended weight loss can be seen with undiagnosed/untreated diabetes, but with other conditions as well. Is there a family history of diabetes? Do you have any other symptoms (up at night to pee, blurred vision, fatigue, thirst, etc)? Diabetes is easy to test for. Your BMI suggests possibility of unhealthy lifestyle. Eat healthily and exercise regularly, and of course, don't smoke. Good luck ...Read more

I am 5'4, 18 years old and i weigh 10 stone. My BMI is within the healthy bracket but am i overwieght? I used to weigh under 9 stone

Probably fine: The concept of proper weight for height varies within many cultures. Your weight of 14 st or 140 lb is at the upper end of the normal range by bmi criteria for age while 8.8st or 123 lb would be right in the middle. You can download a growth chart by age and gender from the cdc website and look at the variables for age. www.cdc.gov/growthcharts. ...Read more

I have a double chin. Is it just from my excess weight (fat)? I am 5'5 and am 194 pounds.

I have a double chin. Is it just from my excess weight (fat)? I am 5'5 and am 194 pounds.

Probably: For 5'5 female, your ideal body weight would be closer to 135-140 pounds or so (110 lb +5 lb/each inch above 5'0") So, the extra 60 pounds may play into this, although not always, and depends on genetic factors too. Also postural mechanics and core strength can add to this if you tend to have forward head posture, which is not neutral. Losing weight will tend to show less of the double chin effect ...Read more

Is it ok to lose weight without exercise? I am in school so I am really focused on it but have been eaten really healthy and been losing 2 pounds/week

Is it ok to lose weight without exercise? I am in school so I am really focused on it but have been eaten really healthy and been losing 2 pounds/week

Good job: Yes, no problem. Exercise can enhance weight loss when dieting, but ultimately a healthy diet is the most important strategy for losing weight. You must be doing a great job to lose 2 pounds a week. I advise taking a good multivitamin to make sure you are getting adequate nutrients. Even if you are busy try to do some activity like walking or biking regularly to enhance fitness and reduce stress. ...Read more

I am a former bulimic and I am losing weight quite fast without practicing bulimia is that normal?

I am a former bulimic and I am losing weight quite fast without practicing bulimia is that normal?

Not sure: Weight loss may come by limiting food intake, exercising, taking certain drugs, gastric surgery procedures -- and also temporarily via laxatives or diuretics. None of these are "practicing bulimia, " but they vary in healthfulness and sustainability. Certain medical illnesses can cause rapid weight loss also. It would be helpful to check in with your physician about what's happening with you. ...Read more

I was wondering is corn bad for a fatty liver from being obese? I am losing weight but miss eating that

Moderation is key: Yes you can have some corn. You should live your life, don't just stay alive. Corn-syrup is not so healthy, especially in excess, but fresh corn-on-the-cob is part of a good summer fun/joy and can be an integral part of your healthy diet. U are already taking steps to ensure healthy diet, some fresh corn will not hurt you or your liver. I had some last night! enjoy. ...Read more

I'm dieting and I am only eating about 900-1000 calories a day. I am 5'11 240ish lbs. Is this bad?

Not necessarily ...: A 1200 calorie diet is generally recommended to achieve about 2 lbs of weight loss/week. As long you are getting enough protein and adequate vitamins/nutrients in your food, it is not necessarily bad for you. Keep in mind that sustainable changes in your diet and exercise habits will be much better for you long term than a crash diet, however. ...Read more

I am 18 .College student .My weight is 122kg .Bmi is 35.48.Recently i hav gained by around 11kg.My weight gain is in my stomach which is growing very ?

No short answer: I can't guess the sex of this patient but if it is a woman I am afraid she may be pregnant. Often though when students enter college (and are a real student) they spend more time in the library & not exercising & eating well, which tends to expand abdomens. Eleven kg is not a lot & in either sex could be the fast food diet, but a woman whose stomach is "growing very", i'd get a pregnancy test. ...Read more
