I am having a discectomy on tuesday. What can I expect?

I am having a discectomy on tuesday. What can I expect?

Back soreness: I'm assuming here that you're having a lumbar microdiskectomy. You will experience some incisional soreness, low back aching and pain which is easily managed with medication. If you are experiencing leg pain and numbness, the pain should be better quickly afterward. Numbness takes longer. Rest is the key. No excessive activity. Ice pak on the back helps. You should improve quickly. Good luck. ...Read more

I am having a breast biopsy on tomorrow. What should I expect? I am scared. Would I be in pain after?

I am having a breast biopsy on tomorrow. What should I expect? I am scared. Would I be in pain after?

Relax if possible: Most patients are scared or worried about procedures and I don' t blame them. It's scary having a procedure and having to wait for the results. Take a deep breath, you should do fine. You should expect some soreness at the biopsy site but it should be easily controlled with pain meds and ice compresses. Your physician will give you discharge instructions to make you comfortable. Good luck . ...Read more

I recently tore my meniscus and I am scheduled for surgery in a month. What can I expect?

Ask your surgeon...: For a copy of their protocol. This answer depends on several things: 1) surgical technique, 2) meniscal status, 3) quad control. 4) pain, 5) swelling. Your therapist and surgeon will be able to help you figure out what is best for you. Note that any meniscal repair may slow your ability to put weight on your leg to protect the repair, but is worth it in the long run (prevent arthritis). ...Read more

Your life is saved: Congratulations on having the diagnosis made and your choosing the right option.
