Sputum has foul smell. Not coughing otherwise, no cold, no fever. Do have sinus allergies at certain times of year.?

Several possibles: There are several possibilities for bad odors. First, are you certain it's your sputum that has the odor. I'd ramp up my oral hygiene including flossing, gargle to loosen any food particles stuck in throat, use a Neti Pot to rinse your sinuses daily, and see if these improve things in the next 2 weeks. No smoking or tobacco products. Breath mints ok as long as sugarless (less bacterial growth). ...Read more

I get eczema on my lips every year at the same time that lasts for a few months. It happens with warm weather/pollen allergies. Anything I can do?

Keep the scan well lubricated and if a persistent problem try to get a prescription for a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent.: Keep in the scan well lubricated is overall the best therapy for eczema. You must be careful in using steroid creams on the face, because they tend to thin the skin. Talk to your doctor about the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory creams for the face. ...Read more

I get allergies/cold in the end of August every year. It's itchiness in my nose and throat, sneezing bouts, runny nose, mucus. Pollen is low right now?

Molds?: I assume that you live in the Northeast and for that area, ragweed is likely the cause. On the other hand, pollen count reflects only the exposure within a short distance from the counting station and thus may not actually reflect your own exposure. Other possibilities- Mold counts are also high in the fall (b) you may have become allergic to new allergens. ...Read more

Zen Breathing.: This sounds an awful lot like bronchitis or asthma brought on by breathing cold air, either with or without humidity. I suffered from this when I was about your age and occasionally have some symptoms even now, especially if the conditions are right. You need to control your environment and limit your exposure to triggering elements. Seek the help of a specialist to offer medication to help. ...Read more

26 year-old woman is unable to stop Nordette (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel) birth control pills after 8 yrs of use, due to heavy vaginal bleeding upon Nordette (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel) discontinuation.....?

What are goals?: The answer depends on your long term goals. If you do not want more children then an endometrial ablation is a good option. Assuming you do want more children then other options can be considered. Testing for PCOS and hypothyroidism could be done. Since you are missing periods followed by heavy bleeding PCOS seems likely. A sonohystogram should be done to see if a polyp or submucosal fibroid is present. If present then these can be surgically removed as an outpatient. If pregnancy is desired later on but not now a Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD could be a great option. This often stops bleeding. If you are satisfied with the pill you could just continue ...Read more

Rarely, people can have an anaphylactic reaction to gelatin found in certain vaccines, such as the mmr, dtap and varicella. ...Read more

Is there any cures for mold allergy? I lived in costa rica for two years last month's living there I had bad allergy from molds in the house moist weather so I returned to usa california I am having a hard time to get rid of it my nose is pluged can't br

Nose allergies: Avoidance of allergic triggers is very important. Getting tested to determine what you may be allergic to can help answer this question. Over the counter antihistamines can help to relieve allergy symptoms. Allergen immunotherapy injections can be used to help decrease or at times completely resolve your allergy to environmental allergens such as pollens or molds. ...Read more

I get really congested due to year round allergies. I can't tolerate the decongestants. Could I try a child's dose to see if it would help?

Avoid decongestants: In general, decongestants are not really effective long-term therapies for allergies. Generally, the effects of decongestants are to constrict blood vessels, throughout the body, which really does nothing to treat the causative problem, which is inflammation related to the allergen. Antihistamines, nasal steroids, allergen avoidance, and leukotriene antagonists are more effective. ...Read more

How many times per year are allergy shots given?

Once a month: Allergy shots are given once a month if you are on maintenance treatment. To get there you have to start with shots once a week for about nine months or so and then once every two weeks, three weeks, and finally once a month. There are "rush" protocols to reach maintenance which are faster, but also more likely to cause side effects, like anaphylaxis (serious allergic reaction). ...Read more
