Had hysterectomy. Have one ovary left . 43 years old . Do I need to go trough HRT?

Had hysterectomy. Have one ovary left . 43 years old . Do I need to go trough HRT?

No, not necessarily.: If you don't have symptoms of hormone loss/imbalance (hot flashes, low mood, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, insomnia, foggy brain, low libido) then your remaining ovary is probably producing enough for now. However, if you do have these symptoms then you might need HRT. If you're unsure then the best way to tell is to test all the hormone levels. ...Read more

I am a 41 year old woman. I had a full hysterectomy in my early 30's. I have been able to stay of HRT but lately my moods, hot flashes etc. Are out of controll. Do I need to consider hrt?

Yes: Assuming your ovaries were removed at the time of the hysterectomy, i would encourage you to try estrogen replacement therapy. You are too young to be without estrogen. No estrogen can cause bone and vaginal problems in addition to the symptoms you describe. ...Read more

Just had a (4 weeks ago)total hysterectomy at 46 due to bad endo. Do you recommend HRT and what kind?

HRT: As there are rare but serious risks such as breast cancer and blood clot formation, you should understand these risks and they are acceptable to you. Its been 1 year since hysterectomy with ovary removal, and HRT is not working, I feel old, and unlike me?

Hormone evaluation: See a gyn specialist in menopause issues, surgical menopause occurs after removal of ovaries in a reproductive age woman. It can be very abrupt and difficult to manage. Proper evaluation and hormone treatment should be able to help you get back on track. Sometimes patients need additional types of therapy such as testosterone. What should FSH level be if you are on HRT post hysterectomy?

What should FSH level be if you are on HRT post hysterectomy?

Not measured!: If you had a hysterectomy with oophotectomy (which is removal of the ovaries) your FSH will go very high, usually into the 100's. The FSH responds differently in different people to HRT. In some it does not change in others it comes to undetectable. What is important is how you feel not a number! Also, know in situation it is safe and appropriate to be on HRT, see link. ...Read more

I had a complete hysterectomy in june and no hrt. Now my FSH shows 17.4. Is that normal?

I had a complete hysterectomy in june and no hrt. Now my FSH shows 17.4. Is that normal?

A "complete": Tah or tvh, or total hysterectomy takes out the uterus. A bso removes both ovaries and tubes. 17 would indicated that there is little estrogen to suppress its production. That may be due to your age as much as the surgical procedure, whatever it actuall was. ...Read more

At 27, I had ovarian cancer and then a hysterectomy. Is HRT safe for me? My cancer was malignant dysgermanoma.

Yes: Before your ovaries were removed, they made hormones (hrt) so you should be fine using replacement after the surgery. That particular type of cancer should not be affected by replacement. A person with breast cancer, active blood clots, certain types of uterine cancer or undiagnosed vaginal bleeding should not use hrt. ...Read more

My right breast has become larger than my left over past few weeks. I'm 46 been on HRT since hysterectomy +ovarys removed 13yrs ago is this normal?

Not necessarily: Since this just happened over the last few weeks and your breast was not always a little bigger on the one side, there may be some underlying cause that needs to be assessed. Have a dr. Do a thorough breast exam on you with possible testing such as a diagnostic mammogram. Best wishes. ...Read more

I have started having problems with being hot & sweating for no reason, day & night. I am post-menopausal, but on HRT since hysterectomy approx 3 yrs.

Hormonal levels ?: If ovarian function was not surgically removed bilaterally at the time of hysterectomy, the function of the ovaries may now be slowing or ending, thus giving a loss of overall hormonal levels and increased menopausal symptoms of sweating. A physician needs more history to better answer this question accurately. ...Read more
