5.5 mildly complex cyst w/in right ovary, total size of ovary 6.0 containing a single thick avascular curvinlear septation. Hysterctomy in 2001,cervix and uterus removed. Should the ovary be removed.
See below: Strictly speaking the indications for removal are abnormal uterine bleeding, symptoms related to the bulky size of the fibroid, infertility or recurrent pregnancy loss. Many women choose hysterectomy when they are done with childbearing and desire a definitive end to their fibroid symptoms. If you do not have a lot of symptoms there is no necessity to remove fibroids. ...Read more

Obgyn evaluation: Consider seeing a Obgyn for basic blood work. Your doctor may want to check your FSH, TSH and Prolactin levels. Recent discovery of bleeding cyst/endometrioma. Previous cyst drained from same ovary after hysterectomy +2 yrs. What's probability of surgery?
Try med treatments: Endometriosis (in ovaries or in the pelvic-abdominal cavity) can be very difficult to treat medically and even by surgically removing both ovaries. Draining an endometrioma/bleeding cyst may only provide temporary relief but no cure. Ask your Gyn if medical trials with GnRH drugs, progestins or other medications would be valuable before (or to avoid) returning to the operating room again. ...Read more

Lower abdominal pain every day. Is there possibility to get ovarian cysts 3 mts after lap surgery for removing endometrioma? Taking pills, too.
Let your dr know : It may be time to see your ob/gyn doctor sooner than later for further evaluation of this. S/he can do an examination, and possible ultrasound to let you know what is really causing the problem. You don't want to really be guessing on this, as it may or may not be related to your previous procedure. In any case, it needs to be documented in your records. So that proper follow-up can occur. ...Read more
27 yrs old unmarried.Recently, laparoscopic surgery done (removing large 8cm uterus fibroid). After surgery, how many days bleeding goes on?
Bleeding(answer 1): First of all and probably most important is where exactly is the bleeding at? Next is for how long has the bleeding been taking place? Then, how much bleeding is there? If it is at the skin incisions, for just a day, and just spots of blood on your dressing, then I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep your routine follow up appointment. If it is from your vagina or skin incision, for just a day or ...Read more

In a total hysterectomy is it better to remove everything (including the ovaries) or to leave them?
Depends: For most postmenopausal women, leaving the ovaries provides few benefits and removing them substantially reduces the risk of ovarian cancer. In premenopausal women, it is important to weight the risks of a premature menopause such as heart disease, osteoporosis, and menopausal sxs, against the benefits of a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Each woman should carefully weigh the issues. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is a hysterectomy the best option to permanently repair a partial uterine prolapse? Is it better to leave cervix and ovaries? I'm 54 last period 2 yrs
Prolapse repairs: Hysterectomy is not the only "permanent" repair of a uterine prolapse. Depending upon the severity of the prolapse, first and second degree prolapses can be surgically repaired with round or uterosacral ligament fixations. If you are a smoker, have a chronic respiratory ailment or do exercises that increases intra-abdominal pressure(Valsalva) then hysterectomy is the option. ...Read more

Adhesions: It sounds like you may have developed adhesions. Adhesions are similar to scar tissue within the body, which can make future surgery around the area very difficult. No, not necessarily.: If you don't have symptoms of hormone loss/imbalance (hot flashes, low mood, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, insomnia, foggy brain, low libido) then your remaining ovary is probably producing enough for now. However, if you do have these symptoms then you might need HRT. If you're unsure then the best way to tell is to test all the hormone levels. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it common to have severe bladder spasms/pain 8 months post hysterectomy? Everything minus one ovary was removed.
In reference to a laparoscopic hysterectomy for endometriosis issues, would it be better to keep one ovary, if possible?
Depends on age: Leaving one ovary means you will likely still have pain in 6-12 months post op, though you won't have periods and doing the hyst and one side debulks the endometriosis. Over age 40 I suggest both sides come out. Over 35 I tend to make all of mine aware of the recurrence of pain. Under 35 there is some benefit to keeping an ovary for prevention though 50% fail in 2 years and you get menopause. ...Read more
