Just diagnosed w/ hypothyroid TSH 25 in the ER. Symptoms are hyper, rapid pulse & weight loss, tremors, freq. bathroom. How is this possible? Thanks.
Repeat the test: Hi. First of all, no symptom is specific for a disease, and no disease is specific for a symptom. You were on l-thyroxine for 2 weeks for TSH 25. You could have had a postpartum thyroiditis (as you state) that was caught in the hypothyroid phase which then recovered and went back to normal. Then the 100 mcg dose could make you hyperthyroid. Your doc will check labs to see. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

See a doctor: Nicole, if you have been sick for 8 years it is unlikely someone on a free advice site is going to be able to help much! It certainly sounds as if you need to have your thyroid checked again, assuming you are on replacement, and possibly have your adrenals and other hormones and chemistries checked. Certainly you should stay well hydrated. But get an exam please. Good luck to you! ...Read more
I have hypothyroidism and can't seem to lose weight. I rarely get hungry so I've added meal replacement shakes to my diet & 1 meal. What's wrong?
I have hypothyroidism and trying to start an intense workout routine, is it safe to drink protein shakes with my condition? Thanks.
Yes, no problem: If your hypothyroidism is being properly treated you'll have normal levels of thyroid hormone & thus have the same levels of thyroid as a normal person & you can function normally. But many just on levothyroxine don't have adequate t3; ask your doctor to check your free t3; if not in the upper half of the normal range you may benefit from liothyronine (cytomel) as well.
