Medications used to treat hypothyroidism: Most common medication is Levothyroxine , brand name = Synthroid. The goal is to have thyroid levels within normal limits-the blood test is TSH. Probably should be treated rest of your life, since Hypothyroid is not usually cured , but controlled. Maybe: It really depends on the reason why one is hypothyroid. If it is due to environmental toxicicity, such as heavy metals or endocrine disrupters, avoiding exposure and decreasing toxic load may help and your thyroid may recover in time.
