Hypothyroidism Low Platelets
My hair has been coming out clumps in the shower I am 24 just diagnosis with hypothyroidism and low platelet count should I be worried?
This is serious: I'll bet the hair stuff is telogen effluvium and I expect when your thyroid is managed it will remit, but you need to monitor the low platelets carefully and see whether your physician working with you can't find a cause. Be sure to let your physician know of any meds you are taking -- including "holistic" meds that are often not what they are supposed to be, and whether you drink quinine. ...Read more
28wks pregnant with hypothyroidism.Low = haemoglobin, platelets, RBC, haematocrit &lymphocytes. High MCH, MCV quite high. Anaemia? or possible cause?
What do you suggest if I have been feeling extremely fatigue. What do you suggest if I have hypothyroidism and a low white blood count and low platelets?
Low wbc.: Hypothyroidism does not lower your white blood cell count, but does cause fatigue. A low white blood cell count may represent infection, allergy, or bone marrow suppression, and low platelets can also be a result of an infection, or a problems with your liver and kidneys. You should be taking thyroid replacement and see a physician immediately about the low white blood count and platelets. ...Read more

Change meds: Make sure your thyroid level has been normalized with the proper dose of brand name T4 such as synthroid (thyroxine). Stop the cytomel. It can be dangerous and there is no way to check to see if you're on the correct dose. Your anemia may need further evaluation once your thyroid is stabilized. ...Read more

Hypersplenism: With portal hypertension in liver disease the spleen enlarges. It can destroy platelets as it increases in size. Likewise continued alcohol consumption can suppress the production of new platelets in the bone marrow. If the cause of liver injury is removed in time some recovery can take place. These symptoms....: Are more consistent with anemia than thrombocytopenia (the fancy word for low platelets). Anemic patients often describe being fatigued, having little energy reserve or having headaches. Low platelets can lead to bleeding and bruising. Do you happen to know your hematocrit? You should be able to get that info from your doctor since it comes from the same blood draw as the PLT count. May be low 2. ...Read more
Low platelets: Platelets are cells which help you to stop bleeding. Think of them as bricks which build a wall in a hole. The normal range is 150, 000 to 400, 000. They can be low for many reasons and as the number decreases symptoms may occur such as bruising, nose bleeds, gum bleeding and blood in urine or stool. I would recommend having a hematologist evaluate you to determine the cause. ...Read more
How low?: Do you have any bleeding in the skin, mouth or elsewhere? If your count was borderline low, it may be part of the normal spectrum. The best thing to do is to discuss the results with your doctor, to if it needs further investigation. ...Read more
Not related: The effect of Femara (letrozole) or of chemo on the cancer is unrelated to the platelet count. The choice between the two has to do with clinical characteristics of the cancer and the patient, not the blood counts. That said, if a patient's platelets are too low, it may not be possible to give chemo but that has to do with side effects, not effectiveness against the cancer. ...Read more
Ever since the pediatrician diagnosed low platelets in my son, I have been a nervous wreck. What does it mean?

Any connection between low platelets and low cd4 t-cell counts? If a person has both should it be looked into further?
No: Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either side. Only if you're way out of range should these be a concern. Your personal physician knows when to work these up. I trust you know your HIV status; advancing HIV infection is the only illness I know that is likely to drive both into the way-low, and if you're HIV-negative and near-normal range I'd relax. ...Read more

I m suffering from low platelets count 1,28,000 . I took kiwi , papaya , coconut water . What should i take for lunch n dinner ?
Basic stuff: I'm going to assume that your platelet count was 128,000 with a reference range of maybe 150,000 to 400,000 or so. You're in no danger. I trust you are not drinking quinine. Your physician will follow it, especially if you develop other signs of disease. Someone's done you a disservice in telling you that ordinary foods are going to impact this. It's just made up. Best wishes and stay proactive. ...Read more
