NOT ONLY CALORIES!!!: If you are not taking enough thyroid medication or aren ot taking the correct type of thyroid medication, you will not lose weight because you will not burn calories normally if you do not have enough thyroid to govern your metabolism! ideally, you should eminiate carbs and live only on proteins and fats. I have hypothyroidism and despite a 1200 calorie diet + cardio 5x/week, i can't lose weight. 38.1 BMI any suggestions? Bp and cholesterol normal.
Difficult issue: I trust that you are taking replacement medication for thyroid deficiency and are meticulous about calorie count. Further caloric restriction would help and you should consult a dietitian to ensure adequate intake of essential nutrients while further reducing your caloric intake. I understand that further reducing caloric intake is easier said than done. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I run about 4-6 miles 5x/week and limit calorie intake to 1200. My weight isn't budging. I'm hypothyroid. How do I lose weight?
Change it up: Weight loss is about diet and exercise. May need to switch things up. The calorie count isn't nearly as important as what you're eating. Limit carbs and eliminate sugar. Some people just are not runners. If you can't get your heart rate up and keep it up for at least 30 minutes per session, you probably need to change to something like interval training. ...Read more

If : If your thyroid levels are well controlled on your current dosage, you are like a normal person. Low fat, low cholest: Consume a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet with about 1900 calories/day, and then exercise often (30 min to 1 hr each day).
