Hypothyroidism w/ elevated tpo antibodies, low t, adrenal insufficiency... Synthroid (thyroxine) & testosterone hasn't helped. Can I have an autoimmune disease?

You do have it: Elevated tpo antibodies confirms you have autoimmune thyroiditis. This is often triggered by environmental toxins ;/or infections. You will likely benefit from adding liothyronine to your regimen ; treating adrenal problems with cordyceps, rhodiola etc. I advise consulting with a holistic doc. Will taking pumpkin seed oil supplements 1000mg for hair loss, negatively effect my thyroid functioning? I have hypothyroidism taking 75mcg synthyroid

Will taking pumpkin seed oil supplements 1000mg for hair loss, negatively effect my thyroid functioning? I have hypothyroidism taking 75mcg synthyroid

Not studied: Hi. No one has studied the effect of pumpkin seed oil (PSO) on thyroid function; just like no one has studied its effect on hair loss! So take PSO to your heart's content; you're enriching some snake oil salesperson, but I seriously doubt it will have any effect on your thyroid function tests or l-thyroxine dose. Good luck! ...Read more

Can i take garcinia cambogia supplement with synthroid (thyroxine)?

Can i take garcinia cambogia supplement with synthroid (thyroxine)?

Herbal supplements: There is no literature suggesting that you can not take the gardenia cambodia with synthroid. However, some contra-indicated medications are diabetes medications, iron, potassium, calcium, serotonin, singulair, (montelukast) statins and warfarin. Given your history of obesity, i would be very cautious before taking an herbal supplement and recommend speaking with your private physician first. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Can kelp and tyrosine effectively treat hypothyroidism?

Can kelp and tyrosine effectively treat hypothyroidism?

No: In fact, kelp may make things even worse unless you have a documented iodine deficiency. Overdoing kelp may cause hypothyroidism also. Hypothyroidism can only be treated by replacing the hormone which is no longer made by the thryoid gland. Levothyroxine daily is the standard of care for patients with hypothyroidism. ...Read more

My prenatal vits don't have iodine as supplement.I have hashimoto's thyroiditis.I take levothyroxine. Should I also take iodine supplements? How much?

Don't bother: Hi. No one in America is iodine deficient. Then, on top of that, you're hypothyroid! You need a healthy, functioning thyroid gland to use iodine to make thyroid hormone...which you ain't got! You are TAKING, not making, your thyroid hormone. Take your l-thyroxine and don't worry. ...Read more

Can plexus slim be taken w seaweed nazacort echinachea opc grapeseed garlic Lipitor (atorvastatin) ginger omeprazole fish oil acetyllcartinine & glucosaminecondroit?

Can plexus slim be taken w seaweed nazacort echinachea opc grapeseed garlic Lipitor (atorvastatin) ginger omeprazole fish oil acetyllcartinine & glucosaminecondroit?

Probably: One of the problems with many supplements is that there is little research on safety and effectiveness. Plexus slim has many ingredients; I have reviewed them ; they are all safe and have no known interactions with the things you are taking. However, avoid plexus slim accelerator- it is hazardous! i believe anyone on Lipitor (atorvastatin) should take coq10. See http://bit.Ly/1jjpcpg ; http://bit.Ly/1era8lt. ...Read more

Drug interactions with niacin atenolol vit c magnesium iron Zoloft (sertraline) melatonin and armour ?

Drug interactions with niacin atenolol vit c magnesium iron Zoloft (sertraline) melatonin and armour ?

Epocrates check: A quick check on my trusty med database program reveals 3 main negative interactions with those meds listed. Two of them are with armour. The armour interacts with both the iron and magnesium making the thyroid med less absorbed, so separate these vitamins from your armour by at least 4 hrs. The other major interaction is atenolol and niacin. Less cholesterol lowering effect and overlowering of bp. ...Read more

Would standard process adrenal supplements (drenatrophin pmg and adrenal desiccated) affect labs – cmp, tsh, free t3, (liothyronine) free t4?

Would standard process adrenal supplements (drenatrophin pmg and adrenal desiccated) affect labs – cmp, tsh, free t3, (liothyronine) free t4?

Adrenal supplements: 46F asks about lab effects of adrenal supplements on CMP,TSH,FT3 and Free T4. This has likely never been studied as there is no regulation of adrenal supplements & makers can put anything in them until a bunch gets sick & reported to FDA. I would avoid these unless you need to waste money. I would also avoid a Dr who prescribes them. But need more information. Consult with me. ...Read more
